3 2012 Team Captains Kit Awards and prizes will be given to the following teams: - Top 3 overall fundraising teams - Top Fundraising teams from each of the following categories: - Family/Friends - School/University - Small Business - Faith-based Organization - Public Service (Military, Government, Police, Firefighters, Etc.) - Community - Many fun incentives will be announced in the weeks prior to the race, including the location of a TEAM MEETING AREA which will be available for teams that raise over $1000.00! REMEMBER THAT 75% OF FUNDS RAISED STAY RIGHT HERE IN COASTAL GEORGIA TO SUPPORT BREAST CANCER EDUCATION, SCREENING AND TREATMENT PROGRAMS. THE REMAINING 25% OF FUNDS RAISED SUPPORT THE NATIONAL SUSAN G. KOMEN RESEARCH GRANTS PROGRAMS. Team Fundraising Incentives

4 2012 Team Captains Kit - Teams consist of 10 or more people. - TEAM REGISTRATION DEADLINE: APRIL 13th at 11:59 p.m. Sorry, but there are no exceptions! Registrations received after the team deadline will be processed as individuals. Packets will be available for late registrants in individual packet pickup. - Team members can be male or female; teams can include people of all ages and may or may not include breast cancer survivors. All race participants must be registered, including infants in carriers or strollers. - Team members can register online (preferred) or by mail. It is recommended that the entire team register using the same format. - To avoid team registration confusion, we strongly recommend that your team name does not begin with the word the or team. - Other tips for success: choose a unique team name, spell it correctly, and make sure that your team members know the team name before they register! - Create a team T-shirt for race day! Please be mindful that pink t-shirts are reserved for survivors. - Use of the Susan G. Komen Race Logo is not permitted, but you may use a generic pink ribbon logo or our special team race logo. 5 2012 Team Captains Kit Use this checklist as a reminder of your next steps and to help you keep track of your progress. Register as a team captain at Choose a team name. Your team name should be unique. Try not to start your team name with The or Team. Set a goal for the number of people you will recruit. If your company team is open to non-employees, ask team members to recruit their families and friends to join the team. Ten or more people comprise a team. Make a personal self donation first. Display event materials – brochures and posters – around the office, campus, cafeterias, break rooms, gyms, and other high traffic areas. Put your name, phone number and/or email address on the posters so people can contact you to get involved. Post a progress chart with your fundraising and recruitment goals in a visible area, and update totals regularly. Host a kick-off meeting or event and invite a Coastal Komen Affiliate Board member or Race Committee member to make a presentation. Send fundraising tips out to all your team members; highlight the teams top fundraising member. Create fundraising incentives so that all your members meet or exceed their goals. Remind your team members about overall race fundraising incentives. Remind team members to log on to their fundraising pages to record all offline donations and send thank you notes. 6 2012 Team Captains Kit 1. Recruit team members: Post flyers, send emails and form a team with co-workers, friends, family, neighbors, and organization members. 2. Set a fundraising goal: Encourage your team members to fundraise. Capitalize on fun events to raise money with bake sales, penny jars, work jean days or wear-pink days. 3. Motivate your team: Keep your team informed of everything RACE related! Send inspirational letters or stories, provide breast cancer facts, and strategize on how to win a team award – keep the excitement going! STEPS TO SUCCESS

7 2012 Team Captains Kit Your registration gets you to the start line; fundraising gets us to the finish! Choose one of these fun raising activities or create your own to help your team make an impact in the fight against breast cancer! - Casual days – Ask your team members to collect a $5 fee from employees who would like to dress down on Fridays. - Design your team T-shirt – Accept nominations for your teams t-shirt. Have people vote using dollar bills. - Water Cooler Days – Bring in homemade sweets and sell them during break time. - Office Cubicle Sale – Sell off any unused or rarely used office supplies to the highest bidder (with permission!) or even a larger office space if available. - Parking Raffles – Auction off reserved parking spots – more if covered! - Golf Tournaments – Mini or not – organize a tournament to raise donations. - Penny Wars – Set up change jars in each department and try to collect the most money in your jar. - Poster the Walls – Post posters encouraging your team members to donate. Include a fundraising thermometer to track your teams progress. - Just Ask – Ask EVERYONE for a donation – your hairdresser, doctor, neighbor, co-worker, sister, grocery clerk, cousin… the key is just to ask! - Car Wash – Wash cars for a donation. - Pink Potluck – Hold a potluck full of pink food and charge $10 per plate. REMEMBER THE POWER OF TEN – We are encouraging all of our participants to ask 10 people to donate $10. If every race participant raised just $100, more than $500,000 would be raised to fight breast cancer!!!!! TEAM FUNDRAISING IDEAS

8 2012 Team Captains Kit Go to the race website: On the left hand side of the screen click on the REGISTER button. A new page will appear. On the right hand side of the screen click JOIN AN EXISTING TEAM. A new page will appear. On the new page, there is a section where you can type in the team name. Type in the team name and click the SEARCH FOR TEAM button. The page will refresh. The team name should appear towards the bottom of the screen in blue. Click on the team name. You will now see the teams homepage. Click on JOIN TEAM and follow the prompts. At any stage, if you have questions, please email: and someone will get back to you within 24 hours. 9 2012 Team Captains Kit How to Register: Choose to register your team either online or via snail mail. Online registration is quick, easy and green! Option One: Online Registration Team Captains can access online registration at Follow the prompts to Start a Team. Enter in your team name exactly (avoid starting your team name with The or Team), and continue on to complete your registration. Once you have created your team, you can email prospective team members and invite them to Join a Team. Team members must register individually. If your team raises over $1000.00 by April 13, you may pick up your packets, including t-shirts, at the Komen office on Victory Dr. on Thursday, April 19 between the hours of 10 am and 2 pm. Please confirm that your team will be taking advantage of this perk to ensure that your packets are ready. Option Two: Mail-in Registration TIP: Write in your team name on one entry form and then make copies to distribute to your team members. This ensures that team members will be placed on the correct team! A blank entry form is located at the back of this kit and can be found online at Every team member must complete an entry form (one name per form) regardless of age on race day. Be sure that each registrant has signed the release waiver. Entries for registrants under age 18 must be signed by a parent/guardian. Unsigned entries will not be accepted. Collect payments. Make checks payable to: Komen Savannah Race for the Cure. Do not send cash. Credit card payments are not accepted on mail-in entries. 10 2012 Team Captains Kit Please arrange for one person to pick up the packets for your entire team if at all possible. Mistakes tend to occur because of miscommunication when team packets are broken up. If your team members do wish to pick up packets individually, which we discourage, please let us know and your team packets will be placed at individual packet pick up. Please bring a list of team members with you so that we can verify contents of your packet. All teams may pick up their packets at our general packet pick up on Friday, April 20 at the Jepson Center for the Arts, which is located on Telfair Square, on the corner of Barnard and York Streets at 207 West York Street. Pick-up hours are from 8 am until 8 pm. As an extra incentive for our top fundraisers, we will provide an additional (and convenient) team packet pick-up on Thursday, April 19 at the Coastal Georgia Komen office, which is located at 2250 East Victory Drive, Suite #102. ONLY TEAMS THAT HAVE RAISED $1000.00 OR MORE BY RACE WEEK ARE ELIGIBLE FOR THIS SPECIAL PICK-UP. IF YOUR TEAM QUALIFIES, PLEASE RSVP BY April 13 th SO THAT YOUR MATERIALS ARE READY FOR YOU.
