2 Objectives learn what the SI system does use OE2003 to build and run an event use SI Config to program ver7/8 Control stations learn about problems and how to remedy them

3 Agenda Sportident Basics: Intro: system overview: hardware, software Part 1: OE2003: set up an event Part 2A: SI Config: program v7/8 controls (Part 2B: SI manager to program v4/6 controls) Part 3: OE2003: download SI punches Part 4: other programs & topics

4 References 1. Sport Ident Electronic Timing: How-To Manual Kim Kasperski, EOOC, November 2003 2. OE2002 User Guide Bill Brown, Wessex O.C. (UG W97 v2.11.doc) aka the Bible 3. Help file in software (might assist you once you understand the process)

5 Sport Software downloads Stephan Kramer Sport Software http://www.sportsoftware.de/support/supp_downloads.ht ml Hardware Manufacturer: AES Germany (SI Config) http://www.sportident.com/sportident- english/english.htm Bill Brown SI manual v2.1.1 http://www.wessex-oc.org

6 Overview 1 Set up an Event: OE2003 v10.3 + Master Station Enter Controls, Courses, Classes Register competitors After competitor returns: Download punches Print results

7 Overview 2 Program Control Boxes (v7/8): SI Config 2.02 + Master Station Regular Control Stations Special Stations: start, finish, check, clear

8 Overview 2 Program Control Boxes (v4/6): SI Manager 9.8 + Master Station Regular Control Stations Special Stations: start, finish, check, clear

9 Vocabulary 1 Control Stations: Master: can program other stations, read SI punches/read memory in controls Special: start, finish, clear, check Controls: what is punched with a finger stick Time Master: synchronize times of stations Download: read SI punch>thermal printer or to PC

10 Control Stations Master Station coupling rod Controls + Special Stations Download Station + printer Time Master SI(time)Master

11 Vocabulary 2 SI Card 5 finger stick, dibber, punch 39 memory slots Color schemes: body and band 330 ms response SI Card 6 64 memory slots 130 ms response multi-colored

12 SI Card 5 39 data slots 30 control # + Time 6 control # only (no time) Start, Finish & Check When full, may not beep when insert into a control Clear Stn erases all data on punch Clear a punch before the race DO NOT put a CLR station anywhere near the Finish !

13 How it Works 1: Set up event: OE2003 Basic information (name, date, start time) Enter controls, courses and classes Assign classes to courses Enter names (register people) and put them in a class

14 How it Works 2 Program Controls (SI Config or SI Manager) and give: a task (function): (control, start, finish, etc) an identity/code (number) the time/date (ver4 controls) when to come on and turn off

15 Master Stn How it Works 2: #31 Date Time On Time #32 Date Time On Time #33 Date Time On Time 3 Controls PC SI Config Inductive coupling wired

16 How it Works 3 Punching a Control with a finger stick: copies the control identity and time onto the punch records the serial number of the finger punch + time on the Control station (i.e. data transfers in both directions) beeps and flashes the LED; process is complete

17 How it Works 3 SI # Control #31 ID # 31 date/time SI Punch Both devices have memory storage

18 How it Works 4 Download Finger punch at the finish via a Master station (OE2003) the control identity + time of all stations copied from the finger punch into the event database event software checks stations against the course list of stations for that competitors class calculates total time and missed punches can download and print split times on thermal printer

19 How it Works 4 SI # ID31-time ID32-time ID33-time Master Stn SI Punch PC OE2003 DataBase Winners Splits Reports: wired

20 End of Introduction have been introduced to the system components hardware and software know that control stations simply apply a control number and time stamp to the SI punch download SI punch data > database software checks that the control number sequence matches that of the course you were assigned to Now will set up an event with OE2003 (single day)
