American alligators http://www.youtube.com/wa tch?v=gTNeNUXR6qw http://www.youtube.com/wa tch?v=gTNeNUXR6qw The male American alligator arches his head and tail and bellows sometimes if the alligators back is submerged the vibrations looked like rain hitting the water http://www.youtube.com/wa tch?v=ZIxl10Qvgw8&feature =relmfu
Alligators mate by the female lifting up her tail and the male lifting up his legs to meet her vet once together sperm is transmitted over to the female to fertilize her eggs,
gestation The incubation period of alligator eggs is approximately 65 days. During this time the female alligator stays on the alert to guard. Also the temperature of the nest decides the sex of the offspring between 90 and 93 degrees Fahrenheit will produce males and anything below or above that will produce females. Also these eggs once laid are not water proof and will die if submerged for to long.
Females They are on guard 24/7 Sometimes going without food for mouths Protecting against females, males, lizareds, snakes, and any type of dog or bird that will try and get at the eggs Male Will eat the eggs if given the chance but usually leave after mating
The offspring once hatched will stay close to its mother for a year. She will guard them by keeping them in her mouth. Offspring feed at this time off of bugs and small fish. http://www.youtube.com/watc h?v=RQpj8tpxPcM http://www.youtube.com/watc h?v=RQpj8tpxPcM
Alligators dont have many genetic problems they do however have people problems the American alligators in the 1940s where nearly wiped out by over hunting and today there numbers are up Also flooding has a major impacted during the breeding season many of the eggs could drowned if the female doesn't move the nest far up the bank. Last some females are killed during the act of mating which can lead to problems.
