3 3 High Expectations Getting clear about what higher level learning really means. Being able to articulate the importance of all children having learning experiences beyond the basic skills.

4 4 Support Asking what will this take? What do you need from the board? Being able to explain what the key support factors look like and what the board is doing to assure these conditions exist in your district. Getting clear on what effective staff development looks like.

5 5 Accountability Making sure the plan implies/states clear indicators of success. Hearing reports from staff on the plan and what is happening to work toward the plan Being able to state what specifically is happening in the district in relation to the Iowa Core and how it is impacting the learning experiences of all children.

6 6 Engaging Key Constituents Networking with business and community interests in building an understanding of the importance of supporting the Iowa Core. Developing key talking points from first three areas.

7 7 Learning What gets talked about gets done: Get it on the agenda. Getting clear about what the questions are and asking staff to help build board learning experiences.

8 8 What Does Support Really Look Like? Asking what is needed. Identifying key characteristics of effective professional development. Learning about what will work and what is affordable in your district.
