What is TED? TED is an annual event where some of the worlds leading thinkers and doers are invited to share what they are most passionate about. TED stands for Technology, Entertainment, Design three broad subject areas that are, collectively, shaping our future. Past speakers include Bill Clinton, Bill Gates, Jane Goodall, Frank Gehry, Paul Simon, Sir Richard Branson, Philippe Starck and Bono. TED was first held in Monterey, California, in 1984. In 2001, Chris Andersons Sapling Foundation acquired TED from its founder, Richard Saul Wurman.
What is TEDx? In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED has created a program called TEDx - local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x=independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized. Click here to watch TED Curator Chris Andersons explanatory video.here
