Lesson 1 Creating a Database
Objectives To consider what a database is To understand the different uses of a database in the wider community To be able to set up a database which could be interrogated
Working in small groups organise the following data How easy is it to create an ordered file? Think about HOW a computer could help?
Software Microsoft Access Creating a database on behalf of a Theme Park Needs to be professionally designed Needs to consider that the users of the database may not be an ICT expert
Theme Park Wirral Quest Theme Park is a new park located near West Kirby. It has many rides from simple roundabouts to white knuckle roller coasters. It is divided into three zones – Aquatica, Destiny and Mini Quest. A fourth zone is under construction and will be opening for the summer. Parties and events can be booked at the Theme Park. This information needs to be stored in a relational database as there have been some mix-ups lately with parties being overbooked. The information needs to include the events, bookings, customers, venues and staff.
Task 1 Using Design View Allows you to set Data Types Allows you to Create aPrimary Key Allows any adjustments to field properties
Task 2 Creating a Form Allows you to create a user friendly design to enter data Allows a Non ICT expert to complete and add any relevant details
Task 3 Creating a Relationship Why is it necessary to create a link between these databases? What will this link allow us to do?
