6 Location Based Services Control Plane –Provides position to a network application (e.g ). User Plane –Uses IP to provide location to the mobile device (or network application). June 19, 2013cdma2000 Technology WorkshopSlide 6

7 Short Message Service June 19, 2013cdma2000 Technology WorkshopSlide 7

8 Short Message Service (SMS) SMS includes text messages and various non- real-time, low bandwidth data services (such as LBS session initiation). Three solutions: –Traditional circuit-switched SMS (ANSI-41/SS7) using C.S0015 message format. –Transport level mapping using IMS and C.S0015 message format. –Application level mapping using an instant messaging client. All solutions inter-operate June 19, 2013cdma2000 Technology WorkshopSlide 8
