4. Experiments for you to try Evaporation Aim: To separate salt from water. Materials Bunsen burner evaporating basin tripod and gauze mat salt solution Method 1. Carefully pour some salt solution into an evaporating dish. 2. Set up the Bunsen burner under the tripod and gauze, then put on your safety glasses. 3. Heat the basin slowly, until almost all of the water has evaporated. Turn off the Bunsen burner. (Note: If the basin is heated too fast, liquid might start to spit.) Leave the basin to stand so that the remaining water evaporates as the basin cools.
