Long Division of Money by Monica Yuskaitis

2
Long Division of Money Long division is as simple as memorizing the people in this family. Dad Mom Sister Brother Rover

3
Long Division of Money Each person represents a step in the long division process. 3. Subtract 1. Divide Sister 4. Bring down Dad Brother 2. Multiply 5. Repeat or Remainder Mom Rover

4
**3 ) 7.3 8 2 Step 1 in Long Division 1. Divide**

Dad Divide 3 into first number in the dividend. How many 3’s will go into 7? Think how many 3’s will fit into 7. Write that number directly above the number you divided into.

5
**. 3 ) 7.3 8 2 Money Step You are doing just fine!**

Place the decimal point next to the 2. You are doing just fine! Notice that the decimal is directly above the decimal in the dividend.

6
**. 3 ) 7.3 8 2 6 Step 2 in Long Division 2. Multiply 3 x 2 = 6 Mom**

Multiply the divisor times the first number in the quotient. 3 x 2 = 6 Write your answer directly under the 7 or the number you just divided into.

7
**. 3 ) 7.3 8 2 6 1 Step 3 in Long Division 3. Subtract Sister**

Draw a line under the 6. Write a subtraction sign next to the 6. 1 Subtract 6 from 7. Write your answer directly below the 6.

8
**. 3 ) 7.3 8 2 6 1 3 Step 4 in Long Division 4. Bring down Brother**

Go to the next number in the dividend to the right of the 7. 1 3 Write an arrow under the 3. Bring the 3 down next to the 1.

9
**. 3 ) 7.3 8 2 6 1 3 Step 5 in Long Division 5. Repeat or Remainder**

Rover 6 This is where you decide whether you repeat the 5 steps of division. 1 3 If your divisor can divide into your new number, 13, or if you have numbers in the dividend that have not been brought down, you repeat the 5 steps of division.

10
**. 3 ) 7.3 8 2 4 6 1 3 Step 1 in Long Division 1. Divide Dad**

Divide 3 into your new number, 13. 1 3 Place your answer directly above the 3 in your quotient.

11
**3 ) 7.3 8 2 4 6 1 3 1 2 Step 2 in Long Division 2. Multiply Mom**

Multiply your divisor, 3, with your new number in the quotient, 4. 1 3 1 2 Place your answer directly under the 13.

12
**. 3 ) 7.3 8 2 4 6 1 3 1 2 1 Step 3 in Long Division 3. Subtract Sister**

Draw a line under the bottom 12. 1 3 Draw a subtraction sign. 1 2 Subtract & place answer under the line. 1

13
**. 3 ) 7.3 8 2 4 6 1 3 1 2 1 8 Step 4 in Long Division 4. Bring down**

Brother 6 Put an arrow under the next number, 8, in the dividend. 1 3 1 2 Bring the 8 down next to the 1. 1 8

14
Step 5 in Long Division . 2 4 5. Repeat or Remainder 3 ) 7.3 8 Rover 6 If the 3 will divide into your new number, 18, then repeat the steps of division. 1 3 1 2 1 8

15
**. 3 ) 7.3 8 2 4 6 6 1 3 1 2 1 8 Step 1 in Long Division 1. Divide Dad**

Divide your divisor, 3, into your new number, 18. 1 3 Place your answer in the quotient next to the 4. 1 2 1 8

16
Step 2 in Long Division . 2 4 6 2. Multiply 3 ) 7.3 8 6 Mom 1 3 Multiply your divisor, 3, by your new number in the quotient, 6. 1 2 1 8 Place your answer under your new number, 18. 1 8

17
Step 3 in Long Division . 2 4 6 3. Subtract 3 ) 7.3 8 6 Sister 1 3 Draw a line under the number 18. 1 2 1 8 Place your subtraction sign. 1 8 Subtract & put your answer directly under the 18.

18
Step 4 in Long Division . 2 4 6 4. Bring down 3 ) 7.3 8 6 Brother 1 3 Look at your dividend to see if there are any more numbers to bring down. 1 2 1 8 1 8 If not, move to step 5.

19
Step 5 in Long Division . 2 4 6 5. Repeat or Remainder 3 ) 7.3 8 6 Rover 1 3 Since there are no more numbers to bring down & 3 will not divide into 0, you do not repeat the steps of division. 1 2 1 8 1 8 There is no remainder left.

20
Money Step . $ 2 4 6 3 ) 7.3 8 6 1 3 Place the dollar sign in front of your answer. 1 2 1 8 1 8

21
**. 3 ) 7.3 8 $ 2 4 6 6 1 3 1 2 1 8 1 8 You’re awesome! You did it! Cool**

Dude! 1 2 You’re so smart! 1 8 1 8 Wolf!
