Yukon Quest Iditarod - Mushing for MS - Sams Winter project 2009-2010
A childhood dream Becomming reality For people with an unchosen challenge MS
Iditarod Yukon Quest The Iditarod and the Yukon Quest are the two longest and toughest sled dog races on earth. Both take place in Alaska. They can easily be seen as the Giro and the Tour de France of the sled dog sport.
Sam Deltour January 2, 1985 Proud son of Brigid Claes, somebody with MS Medical student with athletes status European Champion canicross 2007 Iditarod finisher 2008
2008: I finished the longest and toughest sled dog race on earth without having to send any dog back home. I was the first Iditarod rookie ever to do so. 2010: Yukon Quest at a highly competitive level. Followed by the Iditarod after only two weeks of rest. Only 20 mushers have ever done both races in one winter.
Sterling, Alaska: Homebase of Iditarod Champion Mitch Seavey and his furry athletes. My home during the winter of 2009-2010 training and working toward success.
Training From October 2009, 24/7 will be about the dogs. Together well train for more than 3000 miles in one of the worlds last unspoiled, untouched, wild areas: Alaska. Well test ourselves in some 200-300 mile races.
The Yukon Quest From Fairbanks to Whitehorse: 1000 miles with just 14 dogs and a sled. Turning your back to civilisation for 12 days, looking mother nature straight in the eyes. -40°C, white-outs, cracking ice, overflow, loneliness, blizzards, moose... 3 hours of sleep every 24 hours.
The Iditarod: 03-2010 From Anchorage to Nome, all across Alaska. A thousand miles over the historic Iditarod Trail. From 70 to100 teams from across the world, 40 million fans. The unofficial world championship long distance sled dog event.
Mushing for MS A website is to bring this adventure in the living room. Sharing stories, inspiring and motivating people. The parallel between Mushing and MS will be a central topic. The website will have a separate chapter focussing on children and schools. Polar Explorer Dixie Dansercoer is Godfather.
Multiple Sclerose An incureable chronical disease. It affects the lives of over 2 million people around the world. The nervous system is being damaged with movement and sensitivity disorders. Slowly, continuously and unpredictable physical functions decrease. Every day is a new challenge, planning difficult, fatigue a given.
Sleddograces - MS The first get a lot of recognition, the latter deal with their adventure often in loneliness, with little understanding and future-perspectives. Mushing for MS wants to recognize the daily accomplishments, efforts and performances of MS patients, giving them moral and financial support.
Return Sponsorship Depending on contribution: Logo on the website. Benefit of media attention. Possibility to exchange pictures and footage for commercial endings. Logo on Mushing for MS hoodies and T-shirts. Availability for lectures for associates, managers, customers...

Adventure is a path. Real adventure self-determined, self-motivated, often risky forces you to have firsthand encounters with the world. The world the way it is, not the way you imagined it. Your body will collide with the earth and you will bear witness. This will change you. Nothing will ever again be black-and-white. Mark Jenkins
