2 COMPOUND WORDS When we combine two words to form a new word, we call it a compound word. Compound words are pronounced with equal stress or emphasis on each word. out + field = outfield champion + ship = championship quarter + back = quarterback

3 SUFFIX -TION -tion = act of or state of (pronounced shun) Key words: operation, construction (changes a verb to a noun)

4 SUFFIX -ION -ion = condition of, state of (pronounced yun) Key Word: reunion, champion
