Outline What is robot soccer? The reasons for robot soccers rapid development in China History, present status and development of Chinese robot soccer Introduction of Chinese robot soccer technique Video segment Acknowledgement

What is robot soccer? Robot soccer team is composed of many robots. One team will compete with another team under a complicated condition. Robot team can defend itself from the attack of its adversary, and can also arrange to attack its adversary. It can finish the work of attack and defense through cooperate of its members. Man cannot interfere into the game in the course.

Classification of soccer robot system: So far, robot soccer system could be divided according to the location of perceptual system and decision-making system (at host computer or at robot) into two working modes as follows:

Robot-based Soccer Robot System Robot Soccer has complete autonomy, and is generally equipped with a self-perception system with a variety of sensors. All the calculations (including decision-making) are completed by the robot itself. Because such a system is respectively perceived, and small cameras are placed on the robots vehicle, it would have some disadvantages such as changing vision, sights limitations, incomplete information. These would bring more difficulties to decision-making. So the perception is not just limited to the visual organs.

Robot-based Soccer Robot System It can also be infrared and sonar to test distance and obstacles. In this way, the information (sensors, data) integration becomes the most difficult technical problems. Information exchange between the robots will rely on wireless network. Meanwhile network type and communication protocol also become the key technology which will control system performance.

The reasons for robot soccers rapid development in China 1 the ideal breakthrough point in artificial intelligence field 2 the combination of Robot Soccer and education 3 robot soccer is the conjunction point of theory and practice 4 The development institutes can compete with each other directly through robot soccer contest, which is an exciting point

The ideal breakthrough point in Artificial intelligence field 1 Robot Soccer is a new milestone in the development of artificial intelligence. If we say that computer chess is the first milestone in the development of artificial intelligence, then robot soccer will be the second one.

The ideal breakthrough point in Artificial intelligence field 2 Robot Soccer is a typical intelligence system (1) The decision-making system is equivalent to a coach in the modern football game, who has a direct impact on the success or failure of competition. It can reflect the intelligence of the robot soccer system, and has important theoretical and practical value for in-depth study of strategy system.

The ideal breakthrough point in Artificial intelligence field (2) During the Competition, the location of members in both teams keeps changing all the time. Robots requirements need to be not only smart enough to avoid each other's interception, and breakthrough with the ball, but also to cooperate with other team members, and follow the strategy. This puts forward a higher demand for the artificial intelligence control.

the combination of Robot Soccer and education 1 University education 2 Primary and secondary school education

University education The significance of Robot Soccer in university education Robot Soccer course is different from those traditional courses whose objectives are to impart knowledge and develop skills. The study of Robot Soccer and robot team is full of practice, exploration and comprehension, which can make fast access to the leading edge of research and can also improve the innovation ability and specialized quality of students who choose the course.

University education The development of Robot Soccer in university education Chinese Scientific and Technical University takes the lead in the teaching experiment, and has formed a complete system of the seminar courses. Other major colleges and universities have also set up robot soccer teams, and studied robot technology. At present some Vocational High Schools introduce robot soccer as a method to improve the scientific research level of teachers and to make the teaching lively as well.

University Education University robot soccer tournament has gained academic recognition in the form of high-tech confrontation. Robot Soccer contains the computer vision technology, wireless communications network technology, decision-making technology, intelligent control technology, electromechanical integration technology, computer simulation technology, Artificial Life technology, game theory and social histology, etc, which we need to tackle in the 21st century.

University Education Therefore, the robot soccer is actually a technical contest to measure the level of these advanced technology. In China, we have a large number of robot simulation teams, and they are in a high level. But the number of robot entities teams is comparatively small, and the testing results are worse than the simulation program.

Primary and secondary school education 1 The reasons for Robot Soccer appearing in the primary and secondary school education. (1) children are lack of hard-working spirit today. Robot Soccer Competition requires the children to have patience for the lengthy design, programming, debugging and so on, so to a certain extent, it can cultivate the children's hard-working spirit.

Primary and secondary school education (2) How to rescue some children out of Internet bars and game rooms. At present the situation in China is that many adolescents are addicted to the internet activities such as online games and online chat. This has negative impact on adolescent growth. Robot soccer competition in primary and secondary schools will lead these children to the right track.

Primary and secondary school education (3) How to cultivate children to have the thoughts of never giving up and keeping going beyond themselves. Children should strongly realize that falling behind means that they need innovation. After a competition failure many children immediately ask their teacher to find the reasons for the failure without having lunch.

Primary and secondary school education 2 The development of robot soccer in primary and secondary school education Mainly through the form of competition to fully stimulate the adolescents imagination and to cultivate practical ability and the style of bold attempt. Education departments, governments great attention and funding support strongly promote the development of robot soccer in primary and secondary education.

Primary and secondary school education 3 Existing problem (1) Preparing the programming code in advance, during the contest competitors only need to press the button. So the real level of the participating teams would be doubted. Many people would think: teachers maybe help too much, or some teams may even use robots and procedures produced by professional firms.

Primary and secondary school education (2) Quality education seems less important than College Entrance Examination. For high school students, they must take part in the College Entrance Examination. Putting too much energy in extra-curricular activity must have a negative impact on the academic performance of students. Besides, awards in the robot contest would not give an extra point to the college entrance examination.

Primary and secondary school education 4 Solutions to the problems (1) For the first problem, we put forward a solution that competitors should reply to an argument before the competition. That means: all the team members who are going to take the semi-finals should be interviewed. And the qualification of the competitors who fail in the interview would be canceled. This solution has been adopted in China for a few years.

Primary and secondary school education (2) The more chances one has to participate in the contests, the more experience and knowledge one will gain. We should change the not encourage and not oppose attitude to robot soccer, and implement the Quality Education in practical.

Robot Soccer is the integration of theory with practice 1 Theoretical knowledge 2 Practical ability 3 Combination of theory and practice

Robot Soccer is the integration of theory with practice 1 Theoretical knowledge Robot Soccer needs a broad background knowledge, involving varieties of fields, and each field is not as simple as standing on the surface, so we say that theoretical knowledge is essential.

Robot Soccer is the integration of theory with practice 2 Practical ability Regardless of the junior competitions of the robot assembly, or the development of colleges and universities, or the procedure preparation, strongly practical ability is needed.

Robot Soccer is the integration of theory with practice 3 Combination of theory and practice When many college students graduate, they have a very profound experience, that is, studying inside college for the past few years, they do not know how to use what they have learned. Some students even believe that some of the courses are useless.

Robot Soccer is the integration of theory with practice Robot Soccer has changed their view, during the process of robot soccer development, the students will find that they not only need deep theory of knowledge, but they also need strong practical ability.

The development institutes can compete with each other directly through robot soccer contest, which is an exciting point 1 Robot Soccer reflects the level of science and technology development For scientific research institutes, what makes them feel excited about the robot is not just winning a soccer game. More importantly, robot reflects how much they master the field of artificial intelligence.

The development institutes can compete with each other directly through robot soccer contest, which is an exciting point Many people believe that robot soccer is a high- tech entertainment, and it can enhance the students scientific quality and enthusiasm. While a deeper level is the technique contained in robot soccer. There are many applications of it, for example: it can be applied to military.

The development institutes can compete with each other directly through robot soccer contest, which is an exciting point 2 At present many companies also participate in the development of robot soccer. They introduce the scientific and technological knowledge into the products to provide an experiment platform for a variety of competitions. As well as stimulating adolescents to study intelligence technology and to think independently, it also reflects the company's technology level, and develops market for the company.

History, present status and development of Chinese robot soccer April 1999, the Chinese Robot Soccer FIRA Branch is officially established. June 1999, authorized by the International RoboCup Federation, Tsinghua University and the Chinese Scientific and Technical University co- sponsored the establishment of the Chinese Preparatory Committee branch of the International RoboCup Federation. The main difference between RoboCup and FIRA is that FIRA is centralized control, and RoboCup is distributed control.
