WITH THE PISTOL HELD IN THE RAISED POSITION (MUZZLE POINTED SKYWARD), DEPRESS THE MAGAZINE RELEASE BUTTON AND REMOVE THE MAGAZINE FROM THE PISTOL. B. RETRACT THE SLIDE TO THE REAR AND VISUALLY INSPECT THE CHAMBER TO ENSURE IT IS EMPTY. C. LOCK THE SLIDE TO THE REAR AND VISUALLY INSPECT THE CHAMBER TO ENSURE IT IS EMPTY. D. DEPRESS THE SLIDE STOP ALLOWING THE SLIDE TO RETURN FULLY FORWARD. 2. PLACE SAFETY IN THE SAFE (DOWN) POSITION. 3. UNLOAD AN M9 MAGAZINE. A. HOLD THE MAGAZINE UPRIGHT WITH THE FRONT END FORWARD. B. WITH THE THUMB, PRESS DOWN ON THE CARTRIDGE RIM AND PUSH FORWARD. C. AS THE CARTRIDGE MOVES FORWARD, TIP IT UPWARD AND OUT WITH THE INDEX FINGER. D. REPEAT STEPS 2A THROUGH 2C UNTIL THE MAGAZINE IS EMPTY. TASK: CORRECT MALFUNCTIONS OF AN M9 PISTOL. ( )* PERFORMANCE MEASURES: 1. APPLY IMMEDIATE ACTION WHEN - A. THE SLIDE IS FULLY FORWARD AND THE PISTOL FAILS TO FIRE. (1) ENSURE THE SAFETY LEVER IS IN THE FIRE POSITION. (2) SQUEEZE THE TRIGGER ACTION. (3) CHECK TO ENSURE MAGAZINE IS SEATED. 3 M9 PISTOL PMI GO NO GO RETEST B. THE SLIDE IS NOT FULLY FORWARD AND THE PISTOL FAILS TO FIRE. (1) PLACE THE SAFETY IN THE SAFE POSITION. (2) REMOVE THE MAGAZINE. (3) RETRACT AND LOCK THE SLIDE TO THE REAR. (4) INSPECT AND REMOVE ANY OBSTRUCTION FROM THE CHAMBER. (5) LOAD THE PISTOL WITH NEW MAGAZINE OR AMMUNITION. (6) PLACE THE SAFETY ON FIRE, AIM, AND ATTEMPT TO FIRE. (7) IF PISTOL DOES NOT FIRE, UNLOAD AND CLEAR THE PISTOL. 2. INSPECT THE PISTOL TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF STOPPAGE. 3. TURN THE PISTOL IN FOR REPAIR IF CAUSE OF STOPPAGE CANNOT BE DETERMINED OR CORRECTED BY OPERATOR. TASK: ENGAGE TARGETS WITH AN M9 PISTOL. ( )* PERFORMANCE MEASURES: 1. ASSUME THE FIRING POSITIONS. A.
