Peter Martinkovič Information and Communication Networks s Number Portability Peter Martinkovič Bratislava

SIEMENS 2 Agenda Introduction NP Overview NP Examples Central Reference Database Discussion

SIEMENS 3 The feature Number Portability allows subscribers to keep their directory number when they move within the same local area or change to another network operator. There exists four basic types of portability: Location Portability Change location but keep the Operator and the number. Service Provider Portability for Non-geographic Numbers Service numbers (e.g. IN-Services) ported from one operator to another. Service Provider Portability for Geographic Numbers Change from one Operator to another, but keep the number. Portability Concept Service Portability E.g. change from POTS to ISDN

SIEMENS 4 Number Portability is a key feature in deregulated markets Network of operator A Geographical/location portability 1234 Portability Concept Service number portability Service Provider Service Node X Service Node Y Network of Operator B Network of Operator A Carrier/operator portability Network of Operator A Network Node X 1234 Network Node Y Network of Operator B 1234 Subscriber

SIEMENS 11 Possibilities for NP Database NP Database switch integrated (EWSD) Intelligent Network integrated SA STP integrated (SURPASS hiS 700) hiS 700 Most operators and regulators are opting for a centralized number portability (NP) solution because it guarantees efficient use of network resources and independence from competitors. SA STP integrated NP database is high-performance and innovative solutions that is easy to implement and manage.

SIEMENS 12 National Integration with GNMS Global Number Management System GNMS Central Reference Database

SIEMENS 13 Number Portability - Successful Implementation The success of a Number Portability implementation depends on 2 factors: Number Portability - Implementation 2. Administrative Procedure: s One-stop-shopping s Well defined processes s Short execution cycles s Defined porting windows s Short disruption time for change-over s Low error rates s Clearly defined escalation procedures 1. Technical Implementation: s Correct call routing from donor to recipient network s Correct charging

SIEMENS 14 sOperators have to co-operate to execute NP processes sNP processes are defined national wide sOperators exchange messages in a defined national protocol sIn the national NP processes operators systems have to be integrated for full automation The National Integration is the focus of GNMS Administration – National Integration

SIEMENS 15 Number Portability - Central Reference Database sWhy CRDB? sNational Survey sAuthorized Reference Data (e.g. for new operators) sOperation sby NRA (National Regulatory Authority) sby independent 3rd party on behalf of NRA sby a consortium of the operators (and the NRA) sby independent 3rd party on behalf of a consortium of the operators sby one operator on behalf of the NRA Number Portability - CRDB

SIEMENS 16 Number Portability - Process and Database Support sCentral Reference Database (CRDB) Number Portability - CRDB Operator A Operator B Operator COperator D CRDB Processes and Information flow between CRDB and Local Operator Numbering Databases (LODB) Operators IT Systems LODB Web-Client NP DB GNMS

SIEMENS 18 Managed Services Approach GNMS Client GNMS Server GNMS Database GNMS Client Operator Regulation Authority Internet / Intranet ISDN/PSTN GNMS Administration GNMS - Generic Architecture

SIEMENS 19 Two types of hardware platforms: s Mainstream Platform: PC & Windows 2000 s Power Platform: Sun Fire & Solaris Mainstream Power Platform Platform s High availabilty s High performance s Ease of operation & admin s Price s Modularity s Security s Scalability The GNMS Hardware Platforms

SIEMENS 20 Network Element Integration GNMS Client GNMS Server (operator-sited) local GNMS Data- base Communication Layer: CORBA, SOAP,FTP... Appl-to-Appl Interface Operator hiS 700 SA STP MML,SNMP, Q3,TCP/IP NetManager X.25, TCP-IP CORBA, SOAP, XML… Another strong side: Integration

SIEMENS 21 The Benefits: Summary §Minimizing administration costs §Full integration §Dynamic adaption of processes §Exact survey of process workflow §High security, safety and data integrity §Modern standard interfaces and technologies §Information and Reports §Fast introduction possible

SIEMENS 22 Key Messages Siemens is market leader in Number Portability Solutions Siemens is market leader in Number Portability Solutions Siemens is ready to support you with introduction of NP Siemens is ready to support you with introduction of NP Siemens wants to take responsibility for a centralized NP database solution Siemens wants to take responsibility for a centralized NP database solution è Lets make Number Portability a success together!
