5Hydrodynamic DesignThe hydrodynamic shape of EXTURN results in minimal drag, it is comparable with a foldingpropeller! Experienced regatta sailors couldn’t measure speed loss using GPS. MathematicallyEXTURN results in a maximum speed loss of 0.2 knots at 10 knots cruising speed.EXTURN creates less drag then tunnel thrusters – Why?The flow speed at the tunnel´s position isMinimum twice as fast as at the bottom ofthe hull with EXTURN (see cross sectionof hull). This results in at least the fourfoldretention force for a tunnel thruster whichslows down the boat significantly.
