Harmonic Confidential Integration of QAMs into the CCAP Solution July 2011 Asaf Matatyaou Director, Cable Edge & Access Solutions The targeted timeframes, products, features and/or functionality described herein are estimates only, shall not be relied on, may be changed at any time at Harmonic's sole discretion, and shall not be interpreted as an obligation or deliverable for current or future orders, and shall not be incorporated into any contract. Obligations and deliverables are defined on an independent basis pursuant to the individual contract terms and will default to current performance capabilities. Nothing herein shall create or impose any obligation on the part of Harmonic.

Harmonic Confidential EdgeQAM Introduction EdgeQAM Overview in CCAP Delivering Video Services Today Migrating to Downstream-Only CCAP Services Providing Full CCAP Services

EdgeQAM Introduction

Harmonic Confidential Video EdgeQAM One or more ingress interfaces (typically GbE) Accepting MPTS or SPTS inputs via UDP/IP from SDV, VOD or Linear IP Broadcast sources Multiplexes input programs into an MPTS that is modulated and transmitted Multiple RF QAM egress interfaces Universal EdgeQAM Video EdgeQAM plus the capability to deliver DOCSIS data in an M-CMTS architecture Must be paired with an M-CMTS core and DOCSIS Timing Server (DTI)

Harmonic Confidential A STB client can request video streams from the SM, which acquires the necessary resources for delivery Manages input/output EQAM resources

CCAP – EdgeQAM Overview

Harmonic Confidential Supported protocols Linear broadcast SDV VOD DOCSIS for IPTV Individual QAM channels could be reserved for one of these services or a single narrowcast QAM channel may support multiple protocols Functioning as a Universal Edge QAM in an M-CMTS configuration Adhere to the NGOD requirements

Harmonic Confidential Some performance and capacity requirements are spelled out Performance specifications examples Session setup time to provision any stream MUST be less than 0.5 seconds SDV: 40 service groups MUST support minimum sustained rate of 480 session changes per second VOD: Minimum rate of 40 sessions per hour per narrowcast QAM channel Capacity specifications examples Linear broadcast: minimum of 20 programs (MPTS or SPTS) into a single MPTS MPEG: Minimum of 127 MPEG programs on any individual QAM, with typical being 10 – 15 MPEG programs MPEG: Minimum of 8 PIDs per program; 256 PIDs per QAM

Harmonic Confidential Density (HW support) Minimum of 64 narrowcast QAMs per RF port, licensable from 32 QAMs, in steps of 16 QAMs, to a max supportable by specific hardware Minimum of 96 broadcast QAMs, licensable from 16 QAMs, in steps of 16 QAMs, to a max of 96 broadcast QAMs Minimum of 2.5 RF service groups per RU (e.g. 40 SGs for 16 RU) QAM Replication Create service groups on a decoupled, service-by-service basis Handle service group inequalities by sharing a set of SDV or VOD QAMs to form service groups with unique sets of HSD QAMs Replicate narrowcast video (SDV and VOD) QAMs across multiple ports on a given line card

Harmonic Confidential Typically every Service group has a dedicated set of combiner / splitter

Path to CCAP

Harmonic Confidential Todays capacity needs and near-term growth are met with existing Dense EdgeQAM platforms For example: 324 QAMs/RU; 9 ports/RU As capacity grows beyond existing EdgeQAM or CMTS capabilities, migrate to Downstream-Only CCAP chassis Downstream-Only CCAP chassis is HW-capable of achieving full CCAP functionality, enabling convergence of video and data in a single platform

Harmonic Confidential Operation Focus Modular Design, Hot swappable components Reliability, system performance over time SW suite for day-2-day operation Universal EQAM platform for VOD, SDV, M-CMTS, Broadcast CCAP Feature Support Highest density, Lowest power per QAM Frequency Agility, Flexible placement of individual QAMs Flexible price, Pay as you grow Most cost-effective solution Advanced software Rich feature set & Intuitive configuration

Harmonic Confidential Services: SDV VOD CMTS Cable-IPTV Linear Broadcast Eco-systems: NGOD ISA Proprietary Encryption: – PM – DVB CAS – Session base – Tier base – Pre- encryption Variable Equalizer Virtual Combining Radius CCAPs EdgeQAM requirements are heavily based on these technologies CCAPs EdgeQAM requirements are heavily based on these technologies

Harmonic Confidential Todays Dense EdgeQAM addresses key CCAP features Video QAM growth M-CMTS growth Extensive feature set What doesnt it provide A platform to add future upstream services High availability (N+1 LCs)

Harmonic Confidential New packaging of existing platforms Chassis meets CCAP High Availability/Redundancy requirements Designed for low cost and higher capacity of QAMs Integrating existing EdgeQAM and M-CMTS functionality into CCAP-capable platform

Harmonic Confidential Application delivery of SDV, VOD, M-CMTS, Cable IPTV and Broadcast services Leverages the identical Video Headend Reference Architecture utilized in both todays EdgeQAM products and the CCAP specifications Enables EdgeQAM and M-CMTS service growth beyond existing capacity at platform introduction Capable of complete data and video service convergence as Upstream Line-Card and DOCSIS applications are added Leverages: EdgeQAM platforms extensive applications and features Provides: chassis-based CCAP-capable EdgeQAM & M-CMTS services Leverages: EdgeQAM platforms extensive applications and features Provides: chassis-based CCAP-capable EdgeQAM & M-CMTS services

Harmonic Confidential Leverages low-cost, high-density chassis Single chassis with converged applications saves rack space Any service (data or video) on any QAM Hedge against traditional video growth versus Video over IP growth Service Group growth flexibility Internal replication of SGs allows for different sized HSD and VOD/SDV SGs A single platform that allows for DS and US port growth specific to an operators needs Fill a chassis entirely with Downstream Line-Cards Add Upstream Line-Cards as needed, proportional to data service needs Continues with the pay-as-you-grow model Leverages: chassis-based CCAP-capable EdgeQAM & M-CMTS services Provides: Upstream Line-Card and DOCSIS applications Leverages: chassis-based CCAP-capable EdgeQAM & M-CMTS services Provides: Upstream Line-Card and DOCSIS applications

CCAP Deployment Scenerios

Harmonic Confidential Convergence of data and video into a low-cost, small device Flexibility in deployment, by matching multiple Access Shelves with a single Edge Router Possibly at a centralized Headend Fits perfectly into a distributed architecture, locating Access Shelves at hubs and OTNs which are fed from a centralized Headend Dramatic reduction in rack space and power consumption

Application: OTN / Hub consolidation BeforeAfter

Summary

Harmonic Confidential Today: Grow QAM capacity for immediate service growth Use todays dense EdgeQAM platforms VOD, SDV, M-CMTS, IPTV and Broadcast deployments Highly dense solution (both QAM/RU and port/RU) Rich SW solution Proven high reliability Next: Extend QAM Capacity in a HA, chassis-based, full-CCAP-capable platform Low cost, small size Repackaging of existing CCAP-ready features with the roadmap for tomorrow Finally: Introduce data-based services in a single platform Low-cost data and video QAMs Incremental DOCSIS-based applications
