What Is This? Celiac disease is a digestive condition triggered by consumption of the protein gluten. Gluten is Primarialy found in bread, pasta, cookies, pizza crust, and many other foods containing wheat, barley, or rye.
Autoimmune…How? People eat gluten=damage to the inner surface of the small intestine=inabililty to absorb certain nutrients=malnutrition
Symptoms Children: Growth Problems Decreased Appetite Chronic Diarrhea, Which can be bloody Vomiting Abdominal Bloating and Pain Fatigue Irritability Adult: Iron Defiency…aka Anemia Bone or Joint Pain Arthritis Depression or Anxiety Bone Loss Tingling numbness in hands or feet Seizures Mouth Sores
Treatments There is no real cure for Celiac Disease. You can manage Celiac Disease by being on a gluten free diet; also by taking vitamin supplements to combat malnutrition.
Additional Info Treat as early as possible to avoid the following long-term effects: –Malnutrition –Liver Disease –Cancers of the intestine (rare cases)
