ESCOLA SECUNDÁRIA D. FILIPA DE LENCASTRE Our School F ounded in 1928, our school had several premises until the present building was erected in a central residential area – Bairro do Arco do Cego – and named Liceu Nacional Dona Filipa de Lencastre in 1938. T he construction was designed by architect Jorge Segurado according to a specific pedagogical architecture commonly used in those days: a big quadrilateral structure with a rounded façade built around a playground. Inside, the walls of its harmonious hall are covered with soft pink marble.
O riginally a feminine school, it has been co-educational since 1974 and its name was subsequently changed to Escola Secundária Dona Filipa de Lencastre. I t is located in an area of tertiary activities and some of its students come from the outer city suburbs. N owadays, there are about 1000 students and 120 teachers in this school and it retains the top ranking in the Maths and Physics national final exams. ESCOLA SECUNDÁRIA D. FILIPA DE LENCASTRE
