GTSTRUDL Users Group Annual Meeting - 2012 STANDBY LIQUID CONTROL TEST TANK June 14, 2012 Parimal Gandhi, PE Sr. Engineer 1
PURPOSE : SBLC TEST TANK To ensure that the SBLC Test Tank is supported adequately such that it will not fail and impact the surrounding safety related valves and piping during a seismic event.. 2
AGENDA : SBLC TEST TANK 1. BACKGROUND SBLC SYSTEM 2. NRC INFORMATION NOTICE 2012-01 3. TANK & SUPPORT MATH MODEL 4. DESIGN & ANALYSIS OF TANK STRUCTURE 5. RESULTS 6. SUMMARY OF CONCLUSIONS 3
BACKGROUND : SBLC SYSYTEM 4 If Control Rods are not available, then use Boron to absorb neutrons then use Boron to absorb neutrons SBLC TEST TANK SBLC STORAGE TANK
BACKGROUND: SBLC TEST TANK 5 The SBLC test tank is a stainless steel, 220 gallon tank used for performing surveillances on the SBLC system. During pump operability test, demin water is added to the test tank, the SBLC storage tank is isolated from the pumps, the SBLC test tank is aligned to the pumps. SBLC test tank is not safety related. SBLC test tank is designed for seismic II/I criteria.
NRC INFORMATION NOTICE 2012-01 6 To inform addressees of recent operating experience related to seismic concerns principally issues involving tanks. The SBLC test tank was not seismically qualified when they contained water. The SBLC test tank could potentially fall over or collapse during a seismic event and impact safety-related equipment located nearby.
9 The SBLC test tank : modeled as an open tank consisting of SBHQ6 & SBHT6 plate bending finite elements. Supporting structures : schedule 40 pipes, modeled as column elements. Support Base plates: Plate bending finite elements SBHQ6 & SBHT6. Concrete & Bolts : Nonlinear spring elements
