2 What are rivers? Rivers are a large natural stream of water emptying into an ocean, lake, or other body of water and usually fed along tis course by converging tributaries.

3 Colorado River The Colorado River is an example of how rivers change the surface of the earth. Rivers cut rocks, move boulders, and deposit sediment. The goal of the river is to create a wide, flat valley where it can flow smoothly to the ocean or another body of water.

4 Rivers are important because they are the route water is taken from the mountains to the oceans or other bodies of water. They provide water that is necessary for all life along the way. Compass rose
