43 QoS and Traffic Prioritization
Highlighted Features VLANs enable mesh traffic to be divided for smaller working groups or specific applications Create multiple virtual LANs (VLANs) on a port or trunk basis or access points QoS can be set by Ethernet ports or 802.1p priority field values – per mesh node Static Routes can be established for specific class of traffic WMM supported on HotPoint nodes VLAN 2 VLAN 1 Quality of Service, Bandwidth, and Static Routes QOS is an advanced mesh option that can be enabled mesh wide. QOS can be selected based on Ethernet ports or 802.1p priority field values on per-node basis. If port priority is selected, Ethernet ports can be assigned High, Medium or Low priorities. If 802.1p priority is selected, priority field values can be mapped to High, Medium and Low To control bandwidth, one of the 28 values between 64 Kbps and 100 Mbps can be specified for wireless links and wired links. AutoMesh now allows you to declare a route for a specific class of traffic. A static route is a flow between a source node and a destination node with zero or more intermediate nodes. Static routes fall back to a dynamic route if the Static Route is down because of a down link. In all cases the best paths are selected between source and destination based on the following metrics • Capacity of each link • Link types • Hop count • Retransmission count on each link HotPort Wireless Mesh Network

44 Performance Enhancement Features
Performance enhancements enable up to 70 Mbps throughput Bandwidth metrics Improves overall throughput by selecting optimal transmission paths Congestion control Mitigates traffic congestion on a per flow basis during high network utilization Node QoS Optimizes video and voice applications by prioritizing mesh traffic by Ethernet port or by 802.1p priority field values on a per port basis Load balancing Balances traffic across the mesh with flow-based routing to optimize aggregate throughput and increase network performance Link elimination Allows a HotPort link to be removed from the mesh network in poor or crowded RF environments Static routes Ensures the highest possible performance between any two HotPort nodes by establishing a direct link between them Broadcast containment Improves overall mesh bandwidth by containing broadcasts in a single mesh or multiple contiguous meshes Transmit rate control Reduces transmissions in poor RF environments by locking transmissions in at a lower rate to ensure constant throughput

45 System Security Features
System and NMS security enhancements ensure end-to-end, multi-level access control to the mesh network: ESSID encryption Prevents unauthorized viewing of node ESSIDs, even with network monitoring tools such as NetStumbler or AirMagnet WPA2 Provides standards-based 256 bit encryption over the radio, on top of the end-to-end AES mesh encryption Signed Certificates Prevents unauthorized HotPort nodes to connect to the mesh Digitally signed upgrades Requires that HotPort nodes check the signature of the firmware prior to upgrading Strict password controls Require all network administrators to use strong passwords, and locks out users after repeated unsuccessful login attempts Default ID lockout Possible brute-force attacks are thwarted through the HotView option of redefining default user IDs

46 Ease of Deployment Deployment enhancements simplify installing and managing a HotPort and HotPoint network Node statistics Especially useful during installation and antenna alignment, the HotView refresh button allows users to refresh the statistics with out waiting for the minimum 300 seconds Selectable upgrades Allows the selection of specific mesh nodes for upgrade rather than automatically updating all nodes Auto node recovery Enables the recovery of a mesh node if it should become “lost” due to power failure DFS Standby Gateway Server Ensures seamless failover from standby to active by deploying Gateway Servers and Network Gateways Interconnects in a redundant configuration
