3 Tuning Protocol A formalized way to get feedback on a work in progress. –Peer editing –Enables work to be refined before it is field tested –Process can be completed in 25-30 minutes for lessons 12-15 minutes for assessments

4 Tuning Protocol - Roles Timekeeper Tunee – lesson writer Tuner – writing members

5 Tuner Review (4-5 minutes) Tuner distributes copies of the lesson to each member of the team. Each member silently reads the lesson and jots notes or questions Tuning Protocol-Step 1

6 Tuning Protocol-Step 2 Overview (1 minute) Writer gives overview of lesson and explains decisions Members listen

7 Tuning Protocol-Step 3 Clarification (1 minute) Members ask writer clarifying questions What do you mean by… Could you reword…. How is the class arranged? No discussion is allowed

8 Tuning Protocol-Step 4 Discussion (4-5 minutes) Writer listens and takes notes as members discuss revisions Feedback Positive Points Questions that arise regarding -standards alignment -accurate content and process -clarity in direction

9 Tuning Protocol-Step 5 Response (2-3 minutes) Tuner responds to feedback about changes and new insights Asks clarifying questions for revision
