What is a mineral? A mineral is a naturally formed, inorganic solid that has a definite crystalline structure.
What does it mean to be naturally formed? It is one or more of the 92 naturally occurring elements that are found on Earth. It can be found in its pure form – element, which cannot be broken down or separate into a simpler substance by chemical means. Example: gold It can be made up of atoms of two or more different elements joined by chemical bonds - compound. Example: table salt (NaCl)
What does it mean to be inorganic? It isnt made of living things. Inorganic Or Organic?
What are the states of Matter? Solid, liquid, and gas. A solid has a definite shape and volume. (a mineral cannot be a liquid or gas)
What is a definite crystalline structure? A solid, geometric form of a mineral produced by a repeating pattern of atoms or molecules that is present throughout the mineral.
