3 Fig 2 Mean VAS pain during 45° active flexion of the knee. The pink dotted vertical line indicates the time point for the first block and the orange dotted line indicates the time point for the second block. The whiskers indicate 95% CI taken from the measured values, not the predicted values from the mixed model. 4 Fig 3 Line plots for individual patients. (a) VAS pain during flexion of the knee in Group A; (b) VAS pain at rest in Group A; (c) VAS pain during flexion of the knee in Group B; (d) VAS pain at rest in Group B. The two vertical lines indicate time points for the first and the second block. British Journal of Anaesthesia  , DOI: ( /bja/aet441) Copyright © 2014 The Author(s) Terms and Conditions

5 Fig 4 Mean VAS pain at rest. The pink dotted vertical line indicates the time point for the first block and the orange dotted line indicates the time point for the second block. The whiskers indicate 95% CI taken from the measured values, not the predicted values from the mixed model. This is why we do not see a significant difference at time 30 min as opposed to what is seen in Table 3. The reason is that the mixed model takes the repeated nature of the measures into account. We have chosen to present the whiskers the traditional way. British Journal of Anaesthesia  , DOI: ( /bja/aet441) Copyright © 2014 The Author(s) Terms and Conditions
