The Beginnings of the Love Kitchen In 1984, Helen Ashe and her twin sister, Ellen Turner started to dream about a program to serve the needy in Knoxville. The sisters developed the concept of the Love Kitchen from the teachings of their parents and their religion.
The Beginnings of the Love Kitchen Contd In February 1986, their dream came true in the basement of a small church. On their first day, they served 22 meals. Today, the Love Kitchen serves over 2,000 meals each week and 80% are delivered to homebound recipients. In 2001, the Love Kitchen opened the Love Kitchen Community Center. This center offers training classes and a safe haven for Knoxvilles underprivileged children.
