Must Love Without Hypocrisy Hypocrisy exists if evil is present to corrupt the purity of real love Evil action & teaching prevents true love 1 Cor. 13:4-6 Does not rejoice in evil, but truth Psa. 119: Hatred of evil part of true love 1 Tim. 1:5-7 Pure heart, good conscience, faith... Bible love & evil do no mix (1 Pet. 3:8-12) Does evil prevent us from loving one another as we ought?
Love Must Seek Good Of Others Words refer to loving as family relation philodelphos - fondness for ones brother or kin philostorgos - loving warmly or tenderly In honor preferring one another… Phil. 2:1-4 Count others better; look to their good Rom. 13:8-10 Love works no ill to others Rom. 15:1-3 Not please self, but please others Origin of love is concern for others over self Presence of love noted in service to others Such love precluded by selfishness & faction
Love Must Have Diligent Action In diligence not slothful; fervent in spirit, serving the Lord When little work going on, usually have many problems (true of families, churches…) Where much joint work is done, unity exists 2 Thess. 3:7-13 Actions of Paul vs. busybodies Eph. 4:1-3 Giving diligence to keep unity… Heb. 6:9-12 Same diligence to fullness of hope Whether we are part of problem or solution can be seen by our diligence
Summary Necessities For Love Rejoicing in hope Love aided by viewing eternity over present Patient in tribulation Trials aids real love by requiring investment Continuing steadfastly in prayer Cannot help loving those we pray for each day Communicating to necessities of saints Not just desire for their benefit, but act on it Given to hospitality (love of strangers) Care for unknown in need, not socials & parties
