Love is Kind Kindness is a command (Eph. 4:32) Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you. Eph. 4:32

Love is Kind Kindness is a command (Eph. 4:32) Bible shows the importance of kindness Let not steadfast love and faithfulness [mercy and truth, NASB] forsake you; bind them around your neck; write them on the tablet of your heart. So you will find favor and good success in the sight of God and man. Prov. 3:3-4

Love is Kind Kindness is a command (Eph. 4:32) Bible shows the importance of kindness Kindness has 4 parts: Gentleness – tender affection behind actions Helpfulness – meeting needs Willingness – cooperative, flexible Initiative – takes the first step Consider example of Good Samaritan Luke 10:30-37

Love is Kind 30 Jesus replied, "A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and he fell among robbers, who stripped him and beat him and departed, leaving him half dead. 31 Now by chance a priest was going down that road, and when he saw him he passed by on the other side. 32 So likewise a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side…

Love is Kind 33 But a Samaritan, as he journeyed, came to where he was, and when he saw him, he had compassion. 34 He went to him and bound up his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he set him on his own animal and brought him to an inn and took care of him. 35 And the next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper, saying, 'Take care of him, and whatever more you spend, I will repay you when I come back.'

Love is Kind 36 Which of these three, do you think, proved to be a neighbor to the man who fell among the robbers? 37 He said, "The one who showed him mercy." And Jesus said to him, "You go, and do likewise." Luke 10:30-37

Love is Kind Kindness has 4 parts: Gentleness, Helpfulness, Willingness, Initiative Consider example of Good Samaritan Luke 10:30-37 Where years of racism had caused strife and division, one act of kindness brought two enemies together. Gently. Helpfully. Willingly. Taking the initiative, this man demonstrated true kindness in every way The Love Dare, pg. 8

Love is Kind Kindness has 4 parts: Gentleness, Helpfulness, Willingness, Initiative Consider example of Good Samaritan Luke 10:30-37 Kindness listed among attributes of virtuous wife (Prov. 31:26) She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue. Prov. 31:26

Love Is Sacrificial We must imitate Christs sacrificial love (1 John 3:16) By this we know love, that he laid down his life for us, and we ought to lay down our lives for the brothers. 1 John 3:16

Love Is Sacrificial We must imitate Christs sacrificial love (1 John 3:16) Love causes us to say no to our own wants and desires and say yes to what our spouse needs Love is seen in our finding a need in others, and doing all we can to satisfy it (Matt. 25:35-36)

Love Is Sacrificial 35 For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, 36 I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.' Matt. 25:35-36 Is he hungry – needing [your attention], even when you dont feel like it? Is she thirsty – craving the time and attention you seem able to give everyone else? The Love Dare, pg. 137

Love Is Sacrificial 35 For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, 36 I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.' Matt. 25:35-36 Does he feel like a stranger – insecure in his work, needing home to be a refuge and sanctuary? Is she naked – frightened or ashamed, desperate for the warm covering of your loving affirmation? The Love Dare, pg. 137

Love Is Sacrificial 35 For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, 36 I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.' Matt. 25:35-36 Is he feeling sick – physically tired and needing you to guard him from interruptions? Does she feel in prison – fearful and depressed, needing some safety and intervention? The Love Dare, pg. 137

Love Is Sacrificial When the New Testament Christians began walking in love, their loves showed sharing and sacrifice. (Acts 2:44-45) 44 And all who believed were together and had all things in common. 45 And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need. Acts 2:44-45

Love Is Sacrificial When the New Testament Christians began walking in love, their loves showed sharing and sacrifice. (Acts 2:44-45) Paul also showed his sacrificial love (2 Cor. 12:15) I will most gladly spend and be spent for your souls. If I love you more, am I to be loved less? 2 Cor. 12:15

Love is Permanent In most wedding vows: For better or for worse For richer or for poorer In sickness and in health Too many times, marriages fail when worse times, or financial struggles or some major sickness arise.

Love is Permanent God demands it (Gen. 2:24) Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh. Gen. 2:24

Love is Permanent God demands it (Gen. 2:24) Hold fast, cleave דּבק, da ̂ baq Pron. daw-bak' A primitive root; properly to impinge, that is, cling or adhere; figuratively to catch by pursuit: - abide, fast, cleave (fast together), follow close (hard, after), be joined (together), keep (fast), overtake, pursue hard, stick, take. "to join fast together, to glue, cement" (Vine) Strongs Dictionary of Bible Words

Love is Permanent When asked about divorce, Jesus points out that from the beginning it was not so (Matt. 19:8) He said to them, "Because of your hardness of heart Moses allowed you to divorce your wives, but from the beginning it was not so. Matt. 19:8

Love is Permanent 1 Or do you not know, brothers--for I am speaking to those who know the law--that the law is binding on a person only as long as he lives? 2 For a married woman is bound by law to her husband while he lives, but if her husband dies she is released from the law of marriage. 3 Accordingly, she will be called an adulteress if she lives with another man while her husband is alive. But if her husband dies, she is free from that law, and if she marries another man she is not an adulteress. The marriage bond is for life (Rom. 7:1-3)

True Love Seen in Christ 25 Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, 26 that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, 27 so that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish. Husband/wife: Christ/Church (Eph. 5:25-33)

True Love Seen in Christ 28 In the same way husbands should love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. 29 For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ does the church, 30 because we are members of his body. Husband/wife: Christ/Church (Eph. 5:25-33)

True Love Seen in Christ 31 Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh." 32 This mystery is profound, and I am saying that it refers to Christ and the church. 33 However, let each one of you love his wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband. Eph. 5:25-33 Husband/wife: Christ/Church (Eph. 5:25-33)

True Love Seen in Christ God shows His love in Christs death John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16

True Love Seen in Christ God shows His love in Christs death John 3:16 Rom. 5:7-8 7 For one will scarcely die for a righteous person- -though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die-- 8 but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Rom. 5:7-8

Bible Love Love is Patient Love is Kind Love Makes Sacrifices Love is Permanent True Love Seen In Christ 15 If you love me, you will keep my commandments. John 14:15

Plan of Salvation Let Us Consider the Commands of Christ Hear the Word (Mark 9:7) Believe in Jesus Christ (John 8:24) Repent & Turn to God (Luke 13:3) Confess Faith in Christ (Matt. 10:32-33) Baptism in Water (Mark 16:16) Endure to the End (Matt. 10:22) If you have failed to continue in the faith, Repent & Pray God for Forgiveness (Acts 8:22; Jas. 5:16)
