Set in the infamous, gaudy and glamorous Paris nightclub, circa This is a completely unique and groundbreaking film from visionary director Baz Luhrmann (Romeo & Juliet, Strictly Ballroom.). Satine (Nicole Kidman) the star of the MOULIN ROUGE and the citys most famous courtesan is caught between the love of a young writer and another mans obsession. Christian (Ewan McGregor) is a writer who finds himself plunged into this decadent world where anything goes – except falling in love.

CHRISTIAN ~ EWAN MCGREGOR Christian is a young writer who travels to Paris in the 1890s in search of the Bohemian Revolution. Christian becomes the writer of the Moulin Rouge plays. He quickly finds himself caught up in the madness of the Moulin Rouge and completely in love with Satine. Christian attempt to fight all odds to stay together but a force that not even love can conquer is taking its toll on Satine.
SATINE ~ NICOLE KIDMAN Satine is the beautiful and desirable highlight of the Moulin Rouge, where she works as a dancer, and a prostitute. She has been a regular feature at the Moulin Rouge nightclub for awhile. Satine is cited to be the "star of the Moulin Rouge". Throughout the film, Satine falls in love with Christian, but unknown to her illness and how serious it is, the Duke and the reputation of the Moulin Rouge, their relationship becomes quite complicated.
THE DUKE ~ RICHARD ROXBURGH The Duke is a rich, pompous man, who uses his money to get what he wants, all the while still being respected. He transforms the Moulin Rouge from a nightclub to a proper theatre. When he arrives, he instantly lusts over Satine and his obsession starts. After a rocky start with Satine, he is drawn in the Christians idea for a play., but In a jealous rage he orders for the play to be changed, so that the beautiful Courtesan (Satine) will choose the Maharajah (his play-within-the- play character) over the penniless Sitar player (the composite of Christian).
HAROLD ZIDLER ~ JIM BROADBENT Harold is the owner of the Moulin Rouge and Satines father figure. He keeps everything on track and Satine in line. His Diamond Dogs and the Moulin Rouge reputation is what he is well known for.
