My awesome fun facts. Point shoes have been around for a very long and time. They originated in France in 1681, have been used ever since. They are used for ballet dancing or point work. Being on point takes serious skill and ability. It may look very easy but in fact it is one of the hardest thinks to do!!
What are they made of?? Point Shoes are made almost entirely by hand. More often than not they are made of satin. The box, that supports the dancers toes, is hard like wood but is actually made out of paper-mâché which is why they only last about 4-6 months.
Different types Point shoes come in every shape and size. The have to be custom fitted to each dancers foot. If there not they can cause extreme pain and discomfort to the dancers toes and ankles. They come in all different colors. Here are some pictures:
Finishing Fact Point shoes are different and fun, they can be painful and uncomfortable. But they are definitely worth it in the end! When you see point work it looks effortless and beautiful. Point is my favorite thing to do. I love it! Hopefully someday I can be a professional dancer and travel around the world doing the thing I love most.
