4 What is Coaching? Coaching is preparation. Be prepared at practice 25% rule Be prepared at games Playing format Line-ups

10 How do I coach? PNP sandwich Positive statement Pick something the player is doing well Negative correction Give player something they could improve on Positive ending Remind player of positives he/she is accomplishing

11 U-12 Lineups Probably 3-2-3-2 3 defenders – 2 defensive midfield All five defenders need to start communicating and covering for each other 3 midfielders - 2 forwards All five players need to start communicating and covering for each other Provides great triangle passing situations

12 U-12 Points of Emphasis Proper throw-ins Good technique and set plays Driving the ball Start using top and outside of foot Set plays Corner kicks, free kicks, kickoffs Team play

13 U-14 Line-ups: Probably 3-2-3-2 3 defenders – 2 defensive midfielders Communication between players is a must Need to start anticipating both what their team is doing and what opponents will try to do 3 midfielders – 2 forwards Provides great triangle passing situations

14 U-14 Points of Emphasis Team play Proper ball handling and kicking Dribbling skills and passing Switching of positions during play Cover for other players as they move with ball Toe drags New ball handling technique

15 U-17 Line-ups: Probably 3-2-3-2 3 defenders – 2 defensive midfield 3 midfielders - 2 forwards All eleven players need to communicate and cover for each other Anticipation should replace reaction Provides great triangle passing situations

16 U-17 Points of Emphasis Team play Group movement Switching fields Work both right and left sides Involving D in offense Drop passes to aid switching fields Switching positions during play
