5 Youth Unemployment Typically defined by those aged 18 – 25 1.02 million young people unemployed 19.6% of young people Many politicians have called it the Lost Generation Unemployed youth can claim £56.25 a week of Jobseekers Allowance

6 Disappearance of the High Street Shopping online has lead to many high street shops suffering. HMV and Blockbusters both began to close within the same week

7 Obesity It is a growing health concern in the UK Most overweight population in Europe 22% of Britons are now obese Compared with 36% of Americans. South of England is slimmer than the north

8 Main Charities in the UK

9 NSPCC- National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children A charity which protects children against abuse in their home. They also campaign to have child protection laws changed You can call their helpline if you are worried about a child

10 Water Aid WaterAid is a non governmental organisation. Their mission is to transform lives by improving access to safe water in the worlds poorest communities.

11 Unicef Unicef fights for childrens rights. For over 60 years they have been the worlds leading organisation for children, working to help them survive from early childhood. They work in over 190 countries They believe that every children should be free from exploitation, violence and abuse.

12 RSPCA – The Royal Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals It is the largest animal welfare charity. They rescue, rehabilitate and rehome thousands of animals every year in England and Wales. They also campaign to have laws concerning animals changed, such as animal testing

13 Comic Relief Next Comic Relief evening is 15 th March 2013 It is an evening on the television devoted to raising money for different charities So far over £800m has been raised and benefitted 15.155 projects in 70 countries. Money does not just go to one charity, but lots of different ones.

14 Red Nose Day It is tradition for people to buy a red nose to wear and to help raise money for the event.

17 Children in Need It has raised over £600m for charity. Unlike Comic Relief, the money raised only benefits charities in the UK

18 The Good Rock Foundation A Charity which works with children adopted from China They provide support for the adoptive family They also hold annual events for the children and their families

19 How To Raise Money Cake Sales are extremely common Sponsored events – runs, silence, hikes, packing bags at a supermarket, fashion show etc
