1. Cleaning of waste water in our region The Water Association of Middle Slovakia JSC Banská Bystrica was established on 1st September 2002 by transformation of Middle Slovak Water Towers and Plumbing, S.E. Banská Bystrica to JSC. The main activity of the company is to supply fresh water, plumbing and cleaning of waste water. This company knots to almost 600 years-old water-managment tradition in the location, where watermanagment activity performs. Midieval ductes, which were built in the 15th and 16th centuries, in towns like Kremnica, Banská Štiavnica or Banská Bystrica serve as all evidence of the water- managment traditions. 3. The Prievidza District The basin of the Prievidza district is created by the river Nitra (96.2%) and the rest of the area belongs to the basin of the rivers Váh and Turiec. The biggest water dam Nitrianske Rudno on the river Nitrica and small dams and lakes in Brezany, Lazany, Kanianka, Nováky and Handlová serve to cover the need of household water. 6 groups of ducts and 13 local ducts supply the con- sumption of fresh water. The grouped duct of the city Prievidza supplies cca 96 000 dwellers. This duct uses also resources which are out of the district, especially from the basin of the river Turiec. 98.6 % of population is connected to the public duct. The waterduct net is 758.2 km and the canalization net is 156.2 km length.

5. The suitable liquidation of the waste water in the region is falling behind supplying with fresh water. Fifty-nine percents of residents are connected to public sewerage. One group drainage Prievidza - Bojnice - Kanianka is built with sewerage water treatment plant Prievidza. Sewer system with civic sewerage water treatment plant is constructed in Handlová and Lehota pod Vtáčnikom. In the seats as Pravenec, Nováky or Dolné Vestenice there is civic water cleaned in the in- dustrial sewerage water treatment plant. 7. The most important problem in the region is liquidation of the waste and mining water. Indicators of availa- ble level of water pollution are seriously touched with NCHZ Nováky. The location and running of sewerage water treatment plant is not suitable in Dolné Vestenice from a position of protection of the subterranean source. To supply with fresh water StVS uses 730 sources of underground water and 5 deposits of water-supplies reservoirs - Hriňová, Klenovec, Málinec, Rozgrund and Turček. The frame of waterpipes creates The middle Slovakia water plant which delivers water to the regional, associated and local waterpipes. The plant offers qualitatively higher degree of using water sources and management of the distribu- tion of fresh water. This is organized by computers.
