Submission Title: [Extend-Superframe and GTS Structure]
Project: IEEE P Working Group for Wireless Personal Area Networks (WPANs) Submission Title: [Extend-Superframe and GTS Structure] Date Submitted: [Jan 14, 2008 ] Source: [Paul Dixon, Pei Liu] Company: [Hisilicon] Address: [ Voice :[ ], Re: [IEEE e group] Abstract: [This proposal examines a mechanism to allow the use of what previously was considered the inactive or power saving period by devices that do not have critical power requirements.] Purpose: [To accompany discussion on e-extended-gts.doc.] Notice: This document has been prepared to assist the Chinese WPAN group. It is offered as a basis for discussion and is not binding on the contributing individual(s) or organization(s). The material in this document is subject to change in form and content after further study. The contributor(s) reserve(s) the right to add, amend or withdraw material contained herein. 2 Outline Motivation Extended GTS Structure Modifications Submission

Motivation WPAN chips are deployed in many types of electronic devices, including personal devices, WSN devices, etc. Different applications have different data length and QoS requirements. The current superframe structure may not offer sufficient GTS slots for different QoS levels within one WPAN. Submission Paul Dixon, Hisilicon

Current GTS In order to ensure the CAP period length, the total number of GTS is restricted to 7 slots. The result is insufficient GTS available to satisfy the demand. It is envisaged that future systems will have a mixed of battery powered and mains powered devices. It is also expected there will be a greater demand for GTS. Submission Paul Dixon, Hisilicon

Extended GTS Allocates GTS Periods beyond the end of the current Superframe, in the period defined as inactive or power saving. These extended slots allocated only to devices without power constraints. A maximum of eight additional slots suggested Extended slots allocated first to none power critical devices, reducing the pressure on the currently available slots Submission Paul Dixon, Hisilicon

Thank you! Submission Paul Dixon, Hisilicon
