PBMCs from non-allergic (n=12) and allergic subjects (n=12) were stimulated with increasing concentrations (3, 10 and 30 µg/ml) of LP proteins, LP peptides, DnaK or the mixture LP peptides + DnaK. A) T cell proliferation was quantified by 3H-thymidine incorporation and is presented as Stimulation Index compared to non stimulated culture. B) IL-5 and C) IFN- released in the culture medium were quantified by ELISA. Results are presented as means ± SEM. Mean basal production of IL-5 (negative control) was 4.51 pg/ml in allergic and 8.52 pg/ml in non-allergic subjects. Mean basal production of IFN- was 3.17 pg/ml in allergic and 4.25 pg/ml in non-allergic subjects. * <.05, ** <.01 and *** <.001 as compared to unstimulated cells. # <.05 and # <.01 as indicated (Allergics vs non allergics).
