1 Submission Title: [MAC Enhancements for Ranging]
7 December 2018 Project: IEEE P Working Group for Wireless Personal Area Networks (WPANs) Submission Title: [MAC Enhancements for Ranging] Date Submitted: [19 July 2005] Source: [Zafer Sahinoglu, Mitsubishi Electric] Contact: Zafer Sahinoglu Voice:[ , Abstract: [This document provides recommendations for enhancements to existing IEEE MAC to support ranging] Purpose: [providing insight into IEEE MAC enhancements] Notice: This document has been prepared to assist the IEEE P It is offered as a basis for discussion and is not binding on the contributing individual(s) or organization(s). 4 Devices also should be able to know their neighbors’ capabilities
Issues It is not efficient to insert a “long” preamble in every command and ACK packet Coordinators should have a privilege to discriminate devices based on their types (e.g., coherent etc) and ranging class (e.g., fast, slow) for association May not desire to receive a long preamble, while many other tasks are waiting inline. Devices also should be able to know their neighbors’ capabilities coordinator Coherent (short preamble) Not granted Non-coherent (long preamble) Non-coherent

5 Primitives Accessed Through the MLME-SAP

6 MLME-Associate.Request
Allows a device to request an association with a coordinator. ( LogicalChannel, CoordPANId, CoordAddress, CapabilityInformation, SecurityEnable ) Should include ranging class (e.g., fast, slow etc) Ranging type (one way, two-way etc) CapabilityInformation In IEEE
