13 RTLS – What do people think it is ? What’s out there ?
Real Time Location System Monitor location of objects using a radio network Rules and alerts based on location or button presses API to 3rd party system pushes out location data or even a map …this is pretty easy, not very impressive nor exciting… Button press in room 301 #252 is exiting the floor

14 What is it really about ? RTLS is not only about location and events
I’m in New York Transport needed in Bldg2. Room 304 RTLS is not only about location and events It is about: Providing and communicating relevant information to and from people and objects Communicating one to many, many to one, tag to person, tag to tag, person to tag, etc. Driving actionable events which are communicated and/or escalated and responded to based on event, severity, type, time, motion, location, sensor, etc. Events initiated by tags, buttons, sensors, people, computers, telephones, PDA’s, cell-phones, etc. all forming the “RTLS Grid” that communicates. I’m nearby –let me take it- be there in 5 2 IV:s +1 VSM in Room #4 for servicing OK- shut-up an go to sleep I’m in storage area 34. The samples are melting Code Red Room 315 Acknowledge I’m on my way to pick them up I’ve fallen down and cannot get up I’m in the parking lot

20 Ekahau Location Beacons – Complementing Wi-Fi
The beacons can be attached to any surface and pointed into the area that needs to be identified. For example: A Bed Beacon on the wall above a bed, will shower the bed with a unique ID, allowing you to see if a patient is in the bed or not or if a caregiver is or has been with a patient. A Bed Beacon can tell whether a bed is available or not based on occupancy A Bed Beacon mounted over a sink can detect who washed their hands and when Beacons can be used between curtained areas to know the location and status of patients for example in recovery, ED etc.. ? ? ? Were their hands washed to prevent transmitting Infections ? Patient Smith in Bed 1 Bed 2 is empty Bed 3 Occupied by Patient Monroe Dr. Johnson at Bed 1

27 Ekahau - The Wi-Fi Experts
Developing the leading Wi-Fi RTLS system requires deep knowledge and experience with Wi-Fi & RF Every environment is different for AP placement, Wi-Fi coverage and overlap Accurate Wi-Fi readings and visualizations are key factors in RTLS deployment Wi-Fi and RF signals are ”bouncy” and unpredictable in nature, Ekahau has been able to harness this through advanced R&D Ekahau Advantage: Ekahau RTLS is deployed using Ekahau Site Survey (ESS) ESS is the industry’s only and first RTLS capable survey tool Standard Wi-Fi site survey calibrates the RTLS, no extra calibration work needed World’s first enterprise site survey / planning tool, released in 2002 Used by thousands of IT administrators and Wi-Fi engineers Incorporates spectrum analysis to determine interferers like Bluetooth, Microwave, ZigBee, etc. Ekahau Site Survey Partners Ask your RTLS provider What experience do you have in Wi-Fi? What kind of RTLS deployment tools, and site surevy tools do you use? Are RTLS deployment tools and Wi-Fi plannign / survey tools integrated?

28 What else can Wi-Fi RTLS do for my hospital ?
An RTLS system is not just limited to “finding things” or alerting when something exits the door, a properly planned deployment and execution can automate many manual processes and reduce human error. Examples include: Managing and automating equipment inventories, par levels, preventive maintenance Automatically capture time and motion for outpatient visits, surgeries, lab procedures etc. to measure and manage based on process visibility. A properly deployed RTLS system can be used across the entire enterprise and leverage the economies of scale of hospital-wide implementations on a “cost per tracked item” model.
