Beta-blockers in noncardiac surgery: Did observational studies put us back on safe ground?

Fig 1 Risk of mortality with perioperative beta-blockers from large observational studies, including specific subgroups. To determine trends and favour the comparison of estimates between studies, original estimates were simply transformed from RRs, ORs, or HRs so that, for example, RR = 1.22, OR = 1.22, and HR = 1.22 corresponded to a 22% increased risk. Not all estimates reached a statistically significant difference and should be interpreted accordingly. HR, hazard ratio; IHD, ischaemic heart disease; MI, myocardial infarction; OR, odds ratio; RCRI, revised cardiac risk index; RR, relative risk.
