1 Math Subtract Fractions
2 What Are You Learning? I CAN subtract fractions. I CAN subtract mixed numbers.
3 Why Do You Need To Know This? Subtracting fractions is important because many real-world situations deal with fractions. Such as recipes, measurements, distances, lengths, and heights.
4 Subtracting Like Fractions Subtract the numerators. Keep the same denominator. Simplify if needed.
5 Subtract. Write in simplest form. a. 9/10 – 1/10 b. 5/6 – 1/6 c. 8/9 – 2/9
6 Subtracting Unlike Fractions Find the least common denominator. Change the numerators. Subtract the numerators and keep the denominator. Simplify.
7 Subtract. Write in simplest form. a. 7/8 - 5/6 b. ¾ - 1/6 c. 5/6 – 3/8 d. 2/3 – 1/6
8 Subtracting Mixed Numbers Write in simplest form. a. 8 5/6 – 2 1/3 b. 13 7/8 – 9 ¾ c. 9 7/10 – 4 3/5 d. 7 – 1 ½ e /8 f. 8 – 3 2/3
9 Subtracting Mixed Numbers Write in simplest form. a. 7 ¼ - 2 ¾ b. 5 1/5 – 3 4/5

Reducing Fractions. Factor A number that is multiplied by another number to find a product. Factors of 24 are (1,2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 12, 24).
Introducing: first addend second addend sum HOW TO ADD FRACTIONS.
ADDING FRACTIONS You will need some paper! Fractions The top number is the numerator The bottom number is the denominator Example:2 numerator 5 denominator.
There is an agreement in mathematics that we dont leave a radical in the denominator of a fraction.

Fraction XII Subtracting Unlike Denominators By Monica Yuskaitis.
Making Equivalent Fractions. Multiply the numerator and denominator by the same number. You will get a new fraction with the same value as the original.
Multiplication Model A Fraction of a Fraction Length X Length = Area.
Lesson 4-4 Example Example 1 1.Change each decimal to a fraction. Order, 0.5,, and –0.8 from least to greatest. Graph the numbers on a number line.
Simplify Radical Expressions What steps would you take in simplifying the following: (3+9 2 )
