SERDC Mission The mission of the Corporation is to unite industry professionals, organizations, government agencies and individuals engaged in the business of recycling; to foster communications amongst those groups; to promote sustainable recycling programs; and, to coordinate education and public awareness activities related to recycling.

Task Statement Engage industry in voluntary public/private partnerships to make strategic, one-time, leveraged investments that sustain higher levels of recovery through the adoption of proven best practices in municipal recycling programs.

Columbia, SC Committed Community Transition to carts. Robust MRF Processing Strong MRF, no action needed. Private/Public Partnership Use private sectors investments & need for material to build champions within the public sector. Strong End Markets The Southeast has strong demand for recyclables, no action needed. Supportive Policy Work with state legislation to pass supportive policy (possible landfill ban on containers). Thoughtful Outreach Good state level outreach. Program changes call for communications push on local level. Example 1: Low level effort
