2009 PRESIDENTS REPORT AND MBO to the 12 th CHAPTERS REGIONAL CONFERENCE ASHRAE PHILIPPINES CHAPTER 21 – 23 August, PRESIDENT: DOMINADOR JOJO G. CASTRO, JR.
2008 ACTIVITIES: o Induction of the new set of officers was held at the Architectural Center Club (ACCI), Makati City on 1st of August o Philippines Chapter held the successful hosting of the 11 th held at the SMX Mall of Asia, Pasay City, Philippines with Cesar Lim as CRC Chairman last August There were a total of 102 paying delegates and 110 student delegates who attended the 11th CRC. Free WI-FI was freely available at no cost to all delegates during the duration of the CRC. o A Food and Beverage Show occupying the whole ground floor of the SMX Center with focus on refrigeration coincided with the 11 th CRC. o Thanksgiving dinner and Christmas Party held December 5, 2008 at the ACCI, Makati City.
2009 ACTIVITIES: o Attendance to the winter conference in Chicago by some officers of the Philippine chapter last January o Philippines Chapter hosted the visit of President-Elect and now President Gordon VR Holness last 26 February 2009 as a Distinguished Lecturer. He spoke on the topic Energy Efficiency in Existing Buildings and Building Information Modelling at the ACCI Formoso Hall, Makati City. o Immediate past president Mon Aguilos representing ASHRAE Philippines became a member of the Green Building Initiative being organized by various professional organizations such as UAP, PhilGBC and PSVARE. o A successful bingo social to raise funds for the chapters various activities was held last 29 May 2009 also at the ACCI. o Induction of the 2009 new set of officers of ASHRAE Philippines was held last 23 July 2009 at the ACCI.

To conduct chapter officers meeting every first Wednesday of the month: July 1, 2009 (done) January 6, 2010 August 5, 2009 (done) February 3, 2010 September 2, 2009 March 3, 2010 October 7, 2009 April 7, 2010 November 4, 2009 May 5, 2010 December 2, 2006 June 2, 2010 To conduct quarterly general membership meetings for the year: September 25, 2009 December 11, 2009 March 19, 2010 June 19, 2010 To join in an exposition this year. This coming November we will be co-organizing the 12th International HVAC/R Exposition and National Convention together with ASHRAEs affiliate organization in the Philippines, PSVARE.
To conduct twelve refrigeration seminars for this year: Industrial Refrigeration Seminar Basic Refrigeration Seminar Brewery Refrigeration Seminar Liquid Overfeed Refrigeration Seminar International HVAC/R Expo of PSVARE (ASHRAE Affiliate): CO2 Refrigerant Seminar Basic Refrigeration Seminar Thermal Storage Design in Process Refrigeration System Seminar (Wait for further announcement on dates and venue)
To conduct seminars with Distinguish Lecturer for this year: Cool Thermal Energy Storage in the Era of Sustainability by DL. William P. Bahnfleth, PhD, PE Vice-President, ASHRAE – November 26, 2009 To attend monthly meetings with the Philippine Society of Ventilating, Air Conditioning & Refrigeration Engineers 9PSVARE) in preparing a proposed Philippine Standard on HVAC – Refrigeration Green Building Committee Guidelines To attend the 2009 CRC in Bangkok, Thailand on August 21 to 23, 2009 and the forthcoming th CRC in Singapore on August 2010
MEMBERSHIP PROMOTION (MP) COMMITTEE CHAIRMAN: DAVID B. FARALA 2008 Gold Ribbon
To increase the number of regular members by at least 6% of the June 15, 2009 date (Area Assigned Members) To reduce the number of dropped regular members To encourage student members who have graduated from college to continue as Associate members Functional planning activities as shown in file.
RESEARCH PROMOTION (RP) COMMITTEE CHAIRMAN: JOSELITO L. DAVID
To conduct awareness on research promotion activities of the society to members during the quarterly general membership meetings enumerated by the CTTC chairman. To intensify donor contribution to achieve Full Circle award goal. To start all seminar activities of the chapter with a brief presentation of the societys research promotion benefits to the members and non- members alike. To conduct a golf tournament and a bingo social the majority of the proceeds therewith shall contribute to research promotion activities.
STUDENT ACTIVITIES (SA) COMMITTEE CHAIRMAN: DR. MANUEL C. BELINO 2008 Student Branch Advisor of the Year 2008 Student Activities Achievement Award
To further promote ASHRAE to Filipino engineering students, we plan to : Maintain and strengthen the current active student branches- De La Salle, Mapua and TUP Re-activate the inactive student branches- PUP and HAU Establish new branches in major universities Extend membership to non-mechanical engineering students like civil engineering and architecture students in Mapua Continue to provide a wide array of activities for holistic development of student members Synergize the activities of the different student branches for greater impact Maximize the availment of student benefits for ASHRAE students
To intensify relations with other professional organizations such as United Architects of the Philippines (UAP), Philippine Society of Ventilating Air Conditioning and Refrigerating Engineers (PSVARE) and Philippine Society of Mechanical Engineers (PSME) in furthering the objectives of the society especially on climate change and global warming. To reactivate the Philippine chapters website within the year To continue releasing e-newsletters for members so they can be aware of the activities being undertaken by the chapter To help government and foundations in explaining the technical aspects of their HVAC/R projects to lay persons and directly support their activities for the welfare of the general population To support fully the forthcoming activity of coming up with a standard on energy efficiency & environmental assessment for buildings, similar to LEED, but based on Philippine situations.
