1 May 2010 Project: IEEE P Working Group for Wireless Personal Area Networks (WPANs) Submission Title: [PIB Coordination in g] Date Submitted: [ 18 May, 2010] Source: [Larry Taylor] Company [DTC (UK)], [James Gilb] Company [SiBeam] Address [UK], [USA] Voice:[-], FAX: [-], Re: [ g Letter Ballot Comment Resolution.] [If this is a response to a Call for Contributions, cite the name and date of the Call for Contributions to which this document responds, as well as the relevant item number in the Call for Contributions.] [Note: Contributions that are not responsive to this section of the template, and contributions which do not address the topic under which they are submitted, may be refused or consigned to the “General Contributions” area.] Abstract: [This document provides initial thoughts on coordination of PIB attributes required in g devices.] Purpose: [To aid comment resolution for Letter Ballot 51.] Notice: This document has been prepared to assist the IEEE P It is offered as a basis for discussion and is not binding on the contributing individual(s) or organization(s). 3 doc.: IEEE 802.15-<doc#>
<month year> doc.: IEEE <doc#> May 2010 Issues Various 15.4g PHY operations require that Tx & Rx device have coordinated PIB attribute values Furthermore, since some proposed parameters exchange index values into PIB attribute sets, the order of the PIB attributes is significant Some PIB attributes may be changed during 15.4g network operation and these changes need to be coordinated Taylor [DTC (UK)], Gilb [SiBeam] <author>, <company>

4 May 2010 Possible Solutions If 15.4g networks should be statically configured, then text should be added to explain the configuration and its relationship to network formation and device operation An upper layer network management protocol can be referenced as a required (normative) reference e.g. SNMP However, SNMP requires the definition and compilation of a MIB – a non-trivial task Define MAC layer enhancements to allow coordinated exchange of those parameters needed for 15.4g operation Taylor [DTC (UK)], Gilb [SiBeam]

5 MAC layer enhancements
May 2010 MAC layer enhancements Need to operate in both beacon and non-beacon modes Probably require a probe/response procedure and associated MAC Command frames Need to determine those PIB attributes that must be managed However, there may be further issues with error recovery and time sequence in this procedure Taylor [DTC (UK)], Gilb [SiBeam]
