2 Red Admiral [Kahu Kura] (Vanessa gonerilla) Lifecycle: Status: Occasional in the city area, More common in country areas Larval Food plants: Nettles (Urtica spp) Rearing Notes: Protect from Birds & Wasps

3 Yellow Admiral [Kahu Kowhai] (Vanessa itea) Lifecycle: Status: Increasing in the city area (but still rare), Common in country areas Larval Food plants: Nettles (Urtica spp) Rearing Notes: Protect from Birds & Wasps

4 Common Blue [Pepe Ao Uri] (Zizina otis labradus) Lifecycle: Status: Small populations in the city area, Widespread in country areas Larval Food plants: Clovers (Trifolium spp) & Trefoils (Lotus spp) Rearing Notes: Have a meadow area, encouraging Clovers & Trefoils Female Male

5 Long-tailed Blue (Lampides boeticus) Lifecycle: Status: Common in country areas Larval Food plants: Gorse (Ulex spp), Broom (Cytisus spp), Peas & Beans Rearing Notes: The larva hides in the seed pod. Male Female

6 Common Copper [Pepe Para Riki] (Lycaena salustius) Lifecycle: Status: Rare in city area, Common in country areas Larval Food plants: Pohuehue (Muehlenbeckia complexa), Large-leafed Pohuehue (M australis) & Creeping Pohuehue (M axillaris) Rearing Notes:Protect from Birds & Wasps Male Female

7 Rauparaha's Copper [Mokarakare] (Lycaena rauparaha) Lifecycle: Status: Rare in city area, Common in country areas Larval Food plants: Pohuehue (Muehlenbeckia complexa) & Creeping Pohuehue (Muehlenbeckia axillaris) Rearing Notes:Protect from Birds & Wasps Male Female

8 Monarch [Kahuku] (Danaus plexippus) Lifecycle: Status: Extensive Larval Food plants: Swan Plants (Gomphocarpus spp) & Milkweed's (Asclepias spp) Rearing Notes: Watch out for overcrowding & protect from Wasps Female Male

9 White Butterfly [Pepe Ma] (Pieris rapae) Lifecycle: Status: Extensive Larval Food plants: Cabbage family (Brassica spp) Rearing Notes: Yeah right! Female Male
