Presentation on theme: "ORDER OF OPERATIONS (BEDMAS)"— Presentation transcript:
1 ORDER OF OPERATIONS (BEDMAS) Any expression in math which contains more than one operation, MUST follow order of operations. Any operation that is the same…Can be completed in the same step of the solution (though it does not have to be)Must be completed from left to right, as it appears in the questionIf “order of operation” are not applied, or not applied correctly, the answer will usually be incorrect
2 ORDER OF OPERATIONS (BEDMAS) BEDMAS is an anagram for the order that operations should be completed in an expression…B racketsE xponentsD ivisionM ultiplicationA dditionS ubtractionsDivision/Multiplication and Addition/Subtraction should be considered as equal operations, and completed from left to right.
3 ORDER OF OPERATIONS (BEDMAS) Example:(4 + 3)2 – 5 x – (6 – 2) + 12= 72 – 5 x – (brackets solved)= 49 – 5 x – (exponents solved)= 49 – – (multiplication/division solved)= 37 – (first 2 addition/subtraction solved)= 45 (SOLVED)
