2. Rebekkah (type of Church) is betrothed to Isaac (type of Christ) by the intervention of Abrahams (type of the Father) servant (type of Holy Ghost). The Servant was sent bearing gifts to the prospective bride and her family. It is by the gifts of the Holy Spirit that men and women are brought to Christ.

3. And Rebekah had a brother, and his name was Laban: and Laban ran out unto the man, unto the well. And it came to pass, when he saw the earring and bracelets upon his sister's hands, and when he heard the words of Rebekah his sister, saying, Thus spake the man unto me; that he came unto the man; and, behold, he stood by the camels at the well. Gen 24:29-30 (KJV) Laban represents the world that watches our testimonies and gifts of faith. He was greedy, but he was drawn to Eliezar because of the precious gifts that he had given to Rebekkah, his sister. When lost men and women see the gifts of the Spirit imparted to us by God, they will also come seeking to know God. 4. Those who previously did not know the Holy Spirit will welcome Him into their hearts once they have seen His Gifts evidenced in the lives of Gods people. If we are the Salt of the Earth, we will preserve, heal, and add wholesome taste to the diet of all who come to the Lords Table. And he said, Come in, thou blessed of the LORD; wherefore standest thou without? for I have prepared the house, and room for the camels. Gen 24:31 (KJV) And the man came into the house: and he ungirded his camels, and gave straw and provender for the camels, and water to wash his feet, and the men's feet that were with him. Gen 24:32 (KJV)

5. Laban desires the Gifts of the Spirit. Laban never became a follower by faith, but remained a person of greed and covetousness. He is like many in the church today to come to worship for personal gain.

6. And there was set meat before him to eat: but he said, I will not eat, until I have told mine errand. And he said, Speak on. Gen 24:32-33 (KJV) The Holy spirit will not comfort Himself. He must ALWAYS point to Christ crucified and risen. Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. 14 He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you. John 16:13-14 (KJV)

7. As we have read, the servant of Abraham does not seek to satisfy his own appetite or to express his own opinion – he only acts and speaks as Isaacs Father has instructed. The Holy Ghost, too, will not glorify Himself, but only tell of Jesus and His majesty. Some churches call themselves a Holy Spirit church; but the very name denies that they are. The Holy Spirit does not work as a secret agent – He reveals to the inquirer who He is: And he said, I am Abraham's servant. Gen 24:34 (KJV)

8. The servant of Abraham comes to reveal, not to hide. The Holy Spirit, likewise, reveals truth and does not hide it.

9. And the LORD hath blessed my master greatly; and he is become great: and he hath given him flocks, and herds, and silver, and gold, and menservants, and maidservants, and camels, and asses. And Sarah my master's wife bare a son to my master when she was old: and unto him hath he given all that he hath. And my master made me swear, saying, Thou shalt not take a wife to my son of the daughters of the Canaanites, in whose land I dwell: But thou shalt go unto my father's house, and to my kindred, and take a wife unto my son. Gen 24:35-38 (KJV) And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself. Luke 24:27 (KJV) The servant of Abraham does likewise -

10. It is God who prospers our Way in serving Him. He provides the harvest. He knows of those whom He has called before they know it themselves. When we share the Word with strangers, we need not fret if they reject it, for it is the Spirit that germinates the Seed (Word) in the dark soils of the heart. The Word is like a two-edged sword – it cuts BOTH ways – either to condemn, or to convict. And I said unto my master, Peradventure the woman will not follow me. And he said unto me, The LORD, before whom I walk, will send his angel with thee, and prosper thy way; and thou shalt take a wife for my son of my kindred, and of my father's house: Then shalt thou be clear from this my oath, when thou comest to my kindred; and if they give not thee one, thou shalt be clear from my oath. Gen 24:39-41 (KJV)

11. Then cometh he to a city of Samaria, which is called Sychar, near to the parcel of ground that Jacob gave to his son Joseph. Now Jacob's well was there. Jesus therefore, being wearied with his journey, sat thus on the well: and it was about the sixth hour. There cometh a woman of Samaria to draw water: Jesus saith unto her, Give me to drink. John 4:5-7 (KJV) How amazingly similar to this account: And I came this day unto the well, and said, O LORD God of my master Abraham, if now thou do prosper my way which I go: 43 Behold, I stand by the well of water; and it shall come to pass, that when the virgin cometh forth to draw water, and I say to her, Give me, I pray thee, a little water of thy pitcher to drink Gen 24:42-43 (KJV)

12. Rebekkah comes to the Well to meet Abrahams servant The Samaritan Woman comes to the well to meet Jesus

13. And before I had done speaking in mine heart, behold, Rebekah came forth with her pitcher on her shoulder; and she went down unto the well, and drew water: and I said unto her, Let me drink, I pray thee. And she made haste, and let down her pitcher from her shoulder, and said, Drink, and I will give thy camels drink also: so I drank, and she made the camels drink also Gen 24:45-46 (KJV) The marks of faith are never mistaken by the Holy Spirit. The Elect of God shall always display these.

14. And I asked her, and said, Whose daughter art thou? And she said, The daughter of Bethuel, Nahor's son, whom Milcah bare unto him: and I put the earring upon her face, and the bracelets upon her hands. Gen 24:47 (KJV) Yet another striking parallel with the record of the Samaritan woman at Jacobs Well. The terms of identity are revealed: Go, call thy husband, and come hither. 17 The woman answered and said, I have no husband. Jesus said unto her, Thou hast well said, I have no husband: 18 For thou hast had five husbands; and he whom thou now hast is not thy husband: in that saidst thou truly. John 4:16-18 (KJV)

15. And I bowed down my head, and worshipped the LORD, and blessed the LORD God of my master Abraham, which had led me in the right way to take my master's brother's daughter unto his son. 49 And now if ye will deal kindly and truly with my master, tell me: and if not, tell me; that I may turn to the right hand, or to the left. 50 Then Laban and Bethuel answered and said, The thing proceedeth from the LORD: we cannot speak unto thee bad or good. 51 Behold, Rebekah is before thee, take her, and go, and let her be thy master's son's wife, as the LORD hath spoken. Gen 24:48-51 (KJV) The agreement is made, and commitment sealed. Rebekkah will go to Isaac.

16. And it came to pass, that, when Abraham's servant heard their words, he worshipped the LORD, bowing himself to the earth. 53 And the servant brought forth jewels of silver, and jewels of gold, and raiment, and gave them to Rebekah: he gave also to her brother and to her mother precious things. Gen 24:52-53 (KJV) Dowries were expected in payment of duties to take a mans daughter for marriage. So Abrahams servant pays a great bounty of riches – well above that which was expected – for Rebekkah. God paid the greatest bounty possible to redeem us (church) from the penalty of sin.

17. And they did eat and drink, he and the men that were with him, and tarried all night; and they rose up in the morning, and he said, Send me away unto my master. Gen 24:54 (KJV) We enjoy a Holy Communion at the Lords Table once we have committed our hearts to Christ. And her brother and her mother said, Let the damsel abide with us a few days, at the least ten; after that she shall go. 56 And he said unto them, Hinder me not, seeing the LORD hath prospered my way; send me away that I may go to my master. 57 And they said, We will call the damsel, and enquire at her mouth. 58 And they called Rebekah, and said unto her, Wilt thou go with this man? And she said, I will go. Gen 24:55-58 (KJV)

18. Once we have agreed to follow Christ and leave the world, there is no time for delay. We leave NOW! The world may plead with us to remain therein, but we must, of our own volition, leave that old world behind and walk in the WAY!

19. When we are strongly committed to follow Christ, the world will cease to have the same attraction and temptation for us to remain. And they sent away Rebekah their sister, and her nurse, and Abraham's servant, and his men. Gen 24:59 (KJV)

20. And Isaac came from the way of the well Lahairoi; for he dwelt in the south country. And Isaac went out to meditate in the field at the eventide: and he lifted up his eyes, and saw, and, behold, the camels were coming. And Rebekah lifted up her eyes, and when she saw Isaac, she lighted off the camel.. Gen 24:62-65 (KJV)

21. And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other. Matt 24:30-31 (KJV) For she had said unto the servant, What man is this that walketh in the field to meet us? And the servant had said, It is my master: therefore she took a vail, and covered herself. And the servant told Isaac all things that he had done. And Isaac brought her into his mother Sarah's tent, and took Rebekah, and she became his wife; and he loved her: and Isaac was comforted after his mother's death (Gen 24:65-67)

22. The Old Testament church of Israel is typified by Sarah, the mother of the New Testament Church. Isaac typifies Christ who never failed to pray for His disciples – on mountains, in gardens, in deserts and in the Upper Rooms. He does so now at thr right hand of God the Father. Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them. 26 For such an high priest became us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and made higher than the heavens; 27 Who needeth not daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifice, first for his own sins, and then for the people's: for this he did once, when he offered up himself Heb 7:25-27 (KJV)

23. Next Lesson, Chapter 25, we read of Abrahams marriage to Keturah – Gives all to Isaac. Dies and is gathered to his fathers.
