copyright Hose Union Taps – Backflow Prevention Applications can be categorised depending on the type of premises or the use, as either: House - (domestic) Non-house - (commercial) The Regulations do not define Domestic. Generally domestic means used in a house. The term house includes flat and bungalow. House Garden includes recreational area. The Regulations do not define Commercial. Generally commercial means not used in a house environment. Non-house situations include offices, factories and schools Agricultural and horticultural applications are considered non-house.
copyright House Gardens & Similar Applications G15.20 Taps to which hoses are, or may be, connected and located in house garden locations are to be protected against backflow by means of a double check valve. The double check valve should be located inside a building and protected from freezing. Double Check Valve (model ED132)
copyright Hose Union Taps and Backflow Courtesy of WRAS Proposed installations require the water company to risk-assess G15.18 Any taps and fittings used for supplying water for non domestic applications such as commercial, horticultural, agricultural or industrial purposes should be provided with: a.Backflow protection devices appropriate to downstream fluid category; and, b.Where appropriate, a zone protection system.
copyright Ive had my installation risk assessed, now what? Fluid Category 5 Fluid Category 4 Fluid Category 3 To be supplied via AB air gap e.g. Break Tank & Booster Set model BTAB Reduced Pressure Zone (RPZ) Valve (BA device), or DB Pipe Interrupter e.g. Standpipe model SPBA Double Check Valve (ED) e.g. Standpipe model SPED
copyright What Hose Union Tap should I use? YES See later slide! Does it need to be inconspicuous? minimising the possibility of vandalism and injury NO YES Conceal-A- Tap Model HUC Tap Box / Tap Guard Model HUTB/S/T/G Is there a building to fix to? NO
copyright What is a Conceal-A-Tap Wall Recessed, Vandal-Proof, Frost-Proof Ideal for schools and public buildings Key Points: Recessed into thermal envelope of the building and therefore offering: Frost protection Minimal exposed parts reducing:- Risk of injury Vandalism Closed Open When used with the Conceal-A-Tap installation kit provides Fluid Category 3 protection (includes Double Check Valve)
copyright What is a Conceal-A-Tap? Wall Recessed, Vandal-Proof, Frost-Proof Model HUC
copyright What is a Tap Box? Wall Mounted, Lockable, Frost Resistant The tap box is tamperproof by means of a hinged lid, which can be padlocked shut. Foam insulation around the valve provides an element of frost resistance. HUTB is rear entry, with copper tube passing through the wall, providing additional frost protection HUTBS is surface entry enabling daisy-chaining HUTBT is top entry with supply pipe surface run above Tap Box
copyright What is a Tap Guard? Guarded Hose Tap with Pipe Cover Supplied with Servicing Valve, Double Check Valve, insulation, hose connector plug and ten stainless steel screws. The tap box is tamperproof by means of a hinged lid, which can be padlocked shut. Tap Guard (model HUTG) (shown with optional hose guard) Polished stainless housing. Incorporates Servicing and Double Check Valves
copyright What if I dont have a building to fix to? NO Does it need to be inconspicuous? minimising the possibility of vandalism and injury NO YES Below Ground Tap Model HUBG Is there a building to fix to? Fluid Cat 3 Standpipe Model SPWPSC Fluid Cat 3 Standpipe Model SPTB Fluid Cat 4 Standpipe Model SPBA Fluid Cat 3 Standpipe Model SPED Fluid Cat 3 Standpipe Model SPWP Fluid Cat 3 Standpipe Model SPTG
copyright What is a Below Ground Tap? Inconspicuous, Frost Resistant To be supplied via AB air gap e.g. Break Tank & Booster Set model BTAB Use where standpipe unsuitable.
copyright Which Standpipe? Model SPED Double Check Valve provides Fluid Category 3 protection Casing provides a degree of frost resistance Padlock required to hold cover shut, making the Standpipe tamperproof Model SPBA Includes Reduced Pressure Zone (RPZ) Valve for Fluid Category 4 protection Casing provides a degree of frost resistance Tamperproof if supplied with padlock Model SPTG Double Check Valve provides Fluid Category 3 protection Flanged base designed to be bolted to horizontal hard surfaces – e.g. flat roofs Hinged tap cover can be secured using optional padlock
copyright Which Standpipe? Model SPWPSC Standpipe with self closing non hose tap and bucket shelf Incorporates Double Check Valve providing Fluid Category 3 protection Model SPTB Miniature Tamperproof Standpipe – ground mounting Incorporates Double Check Valve providing Fluid Category 3 protection Model SPWP WaterPoint with internal shelf, which recesses into the top cap when not in use, preventing injury Padlock required to hold cover shut, making the Standpipe tamperproof Incorporates Double Check Valve providing Fluid Category 3 protection
