Figure 2 | Risk factors for sarcopenia. Sarcopenia is characterized by loss of muscle mass, altered muscle composition, infiltration of muscle with fat and fibrous tissue and alterations in muscle innervation. This figure highlights some of the intrinsic factors that can lead to sarcopenia, in addition to some of the contributing extrinsic factors such as diet, body composition, pharmacological therapy and lifestyle habits.
