2 Tibet Autonomous Region is located at the Southwest part of China, with a land area of 1.22 million square kilometers and a population of 2.3 million, in which, 95% are Tibetan nationality. There are also 30 other nationalities in Tibet, such as Han, Menba, Luoba, Hui, Mouggul, Naxi as well as Cheng and Sharba peoples. Tibet is the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau proper, with an average land rise of 4,000 meters above the sea level. It is well-know as the Roof of the World and The Third Pole of the Globe. The world highest summit- Himalayan, which strides across the boarder between China and Nepal, claims a height of 8,848 metres above the sea level. 3 Tibet Travel Tips: please read before you travel to Tibet http://www.chinahighlights.com/tibet/http://www.chinahighlights.com/tibet/ Tibet Permit Tibet Entry Permit is not available by independent travelers at the moment(at least before the Olympics). Travelers have to travel in tour group and ask their travel agent to apply it for you. Please prepare the following documents before asking your travel agent to apply permit. *a copy of your Passport; *a copy of your China visa (tourist visa); *Full names, gender, Date of Birth, Passport number, nationality, occupation. If you are F visa (business visa) or Z visa (working visa) holders, you are required to provide additional information to Tibet Tourism Bureau to get a Tibet Entry Permit; If you are working in China, a certification in Chinese by your company in China is required; If you are invited to China for business, research, lecture, scientific-technological and culture exchanges, short- term advanced studies or inter practice for a period of no more than six months, a certification by your Chinese travel agency is required.

8 Lhasa Gong Ga Airport – city 65KM; 1 hour Yarlung Zangbo River:The Yarlung Zangbo River, which finds its source on the Gyaimanezong Glacier in Zongba County in the northern foothills of the Himalayas, belongs to the water system of the Indian Ocean. The Yarlung Zangbo River flows from west to east across the southern section of the Tibet Plateau. It first runs across Mailing, then turns to north and east before sharply flowing south toward and then flowing into India. 10 Former winter home of the Dalai Lama, a vast, awe- inspiring maze of corridors and stairs leading through countless rooms of richly decorated statues, tombs, murals and antiques. You will climb past the White Palace into the Red Palace, where the file of pilgrims offering silk scarves, coins or yak butter to burn in the shrines combine to make this an unforgettable experience. 11 Tips: *In order to protect the ancient architecture, the Potala Palace Management Office has limited the number of visitors to 4,000 per day. Group tourists have only one hour to make their visit. *Visitor need to pass the security check before entry the Palace. *There are many stair in Palace, please wear the suitable shoes. *No photo is allowed inside the Palace. 12 Jokhang Temple: Smaller and more manageable than the Potala, this 4-storey, golden-roofed temple is at the heart of a rich and living Tibetan Buddhism. Many locals pray here regularly; the Temple is surrounded by Barkhor Street and thronged with pilgrims and visitors. Yak butter lamps burn in front of rich statuary that includes the Sakyamuni Buddha brought to Tibet by Princess Wen Cheng in the 7th Century. Day02 - Jokhang Temple

14 Barkhor Street: Watch the pilgrims, wearing local dress from many different parts of Tibet, as they circle clockwise around Jokhang Temple with prayer wheels, or prostrate themselves near the front gate. Join the locals and visitors to shop for local goods at the colourful stalls, or relax in a coffee shop or tea house to enjoy the passing parade Day02 - Barkhor Street

15 Tips: Walk through Bakhor Street in a clockwise direction as it goes around the temple and it is disrespectful to walk around anti-clockwise. For your safety, dont stroll around the street too late. Every day after 6pm it turns into a fair trade market, mainly selling small articles of everyday use. There are many narrow lanes and side roads along the street. You may easily get lost if you venture down them in the dark. Day02 - Barkhor Street

16 Lake Namtso is the second largest saltwater lake in China. The lake is beautiful with its azure water and surrounding snow capped peaks. There is a gravel road from Damxung to the lake. In the rainy season, the route can be quite difficult. Day03 - Lake Namtso

17 Yambajan: It is famous for its hot spring and is a nice choice for those who want to get a close look at the Tibetan herders (drokpa) and their semi-nomadic lifestyle. Covering an area of about 150,000 square meters, Yambajan, 87 kilometers away from Lhasa, is situated in the basin at the foot of Nyainqentanglha Mountains to the northwest of Lhasa Day03 - Yambajan

18 Sera Monastery: It is known as one of the three greatest monasteries of Tibet. As one of the three main monasteries of Lhasa, it is here that the monks 'famous daily debates' take place. Day04 - Sera Monastery

19 Norbulingka: Norbulingka means 'Jeweled Garden'. It was constructed as a summer palace for the Dalai Lama and later served the whole governmental administration Day04 - Norbulingka

21 Day04 - Drepung Monastery Drepung Monastery lies in west of Lhasa under Mt. Gambo Utse, clustered round by the black mountain, its white grand buildings shining under the sunlight. Built in 1416, it is considered as one of the largest monasteries in the six principle monasteries of Gelu Sect in China. Drepung Monastery used to be the living palace of Dalai Lamas before the reconstruction of Potala palace (after the 5th Dalai Lamas was bestowed by Qing emperor Qianlong)
