This confectionery is situated in Verpelét, which is 20 km from Eger. It was founded in 1985, as a family business.
They have traditional and unique recipes at the same time, all in all at about 50 kinds of different cakes. All of these products are popular such as tiramisu, ice- cream, rice pudding, chocolate sponge cake, and other fruit cakes. They only work with natural ingredients, and they can fulfil some special requests concerning the decorations of the cakes.
In 70% of the products you can discover different tastes from foreign countries. But of course some traditional Hungarian flavours can be found as well.
They dont employ students in summer, and dont train them either, but they could, because they have the necessary qualifications. They dont have staff, just a cleaning lady who works four hours a day, anyway they do everything on their own.
They used to participate in different celebrations, especially the festival in Verpelét which is organized every year. (The festival of wine and songs) Except for these occasions there arent big procurers.
Its certain that everybody can find a cake which is the most delicious for him/her, and people can spend a pleasant time there. They have no secrets, they work behind open doors, so that everybody can see how the cakes are made.
Because of the restricted capacity of the freezer they can only sell 12 kinds of ice-creams at a time, but they cook 28 different kinds of ice- creams which include their special and original ice creams. For example the Egri ice-cream is a very special one, it contains: chocolate, Bulls Blood (wine) and raisin. Depending on the seasonally, they have 35-40 kinds of confectioneries
Roots of the Harmos The first parlor was a little ice- cream shop with cooked ice-cream Time went by and due to the queue, a bigger property was needed, so they bought, the previously rented property in the city centre in 1994 First confectionery with ice-cream and pastry for the customers In 2003 the Harmos-Coffee shop was opened and run as a classic coffee shop All in all, the Harmos family has 3 parlors from 1972 to nowadays
The Chocolate sponge cake, the Fig and the Eszterházy cake are the most popular. On the other hand the standard ice creams are chocolate, vanilla and the lemon ice- cream are often sold daily. They solely use natural ingredients. Certainly, they use some action-fastening materials, but in an evanescent amount
They have diabetic confectioneries and at request they bake products without gluten. But it doesnt appear so often The different tastes from foreign countries is not typical of this confectionery
The staff consists of 10 people, 6 confectioners, 3 bartenders and a Sunday girl They have one 12-hour-shift and after 2 days work they give a 2 days off for the employees. From Dec. 24 to Jan. 15 they institute the big cleaning and the overall inner-supervision. And at summertime the staff have a 2 week long day-off.
They have confectioner students and give a chance to the students under 18, who have temporary work permit to work at our company at summertime. Principally, they work as bartenders. The employees are motivated by a bonus for the rising of the sales amount.
From all parts of Hungary, confectioners come to their parlor and organize ice-cream and confectionery exhibitions At the 90s they dealt with delivery at residence, but the outgoings rose, so they gave it up. They try to scan the production to prevent themselves from having surplus, but sometimes they have a little surplus and in that case poor excess ends in the dustbin.
They use plastic foils for baking which can be used many times not only once, so its better than the original bake-foil. They use other techniques to make things environmentally friendly, in a very comfortable way, and welcome you every day of the year.
