Some Of Our Graduates and Their Third Year Projects What our students do as a third year project of their choice is amazing! In fact, some students have won some impressive awards and prizes for their work. Lets take a look at some of our students with their projects… What our students do as a third year project of their choice is amazing! 3 Nancy Contois ~ Windows Controlled Submersible Rover Nancy created a underwater rover equipped with LED lights, a camera and six submersible pumps. It was controlled through the Windows program that she developed. Currently, Nancy works in the Federal Government Patent Office at Place Portage, Gatineau.

Nancy Contois won a Hats Off To You! Award for being the top student in a traditionally male dominant technical program.

Li Li Mei ~ Home-Based Four Extension Telephone System A telephone system that can be monitored and controlled through a custom Windows program. It allows for 4 telephone internal lines and one external line. Li Li Mei works for a company that creates secure telephone, data and fax systems.

Keith Continho ~ Windows Controlled DJ Light Show Controller A microprocessor based controller box that controls up to 128 DMX light and sound devices for a show. A custom Windows program was created to create a scheduled show of events which is then downloaded into the controller to be taken to a DJ show. Currently, Keith works full-time in Computer Networking and part-time for a DJ company.

Divers Assistant by Alain Chartrand The Divers Assistant was designed to follow divers around shipwrecks. It had lights, a camera, bilge pump, two motorized propellers, a camera, and a 3 LCD TV screen. The Windows program that he wrote, allows the operator to navigate the Divers Assistant alongside the diver. In the Windows PC, the operator could see where the Divers Assistant was going as well as load images to be displayed to the diver through the onboard LCD TV. Alain competed at the Vireznet competition, which was a show for all colleges and university students in the area. The students would show their projects and they would be judged by Professors, Engineers and Computer Scientists working in the area. 8 Here is a closer look at John Sinkensons project. It is a wireless voice activated control system for persons in wheelchairs to control electrical devices in their home by communicating with a wireless headset in spoken command words to control doors, radios, fans, tvs, etc.. Commands like Computer open door control the system. John has been working as a wireless security expert at RCMP secure networks since his graduation in 2001. 9 Daryl Lussier entered the first year of Vireznet with his PC Controlled Weather Station. Daryl worked for several years at Alcatel as a test floor manager and then decided to further his studies in Computer Software Engineering at Lakehead University. 10 Dan Nadeau made a PC controlled Radar Gun which could be rotated to an object by the Windows computer. It had a camera mounted on it so that the computer could record the image and speed of an object onto the hard-drive of the PC. Dan works for Department of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Government. He lives in London, England and maintains all electronics systems (networks, telephones, satellite feeds, security systems, computers) in Embassies throughout Europe, Iceland, Greenland, Northern Africa and the Middle East. Dan travels frequently. Dan Nadeau made a PC controlled Radar Gun which could be rotated to an object by the Windows computer. 11 Jennifer Mulligan made a PC Controlled Rover with a camera and infrared lights for night vision. Jennifer has worked at RCMP secure networks since her graduation in 2001. She is a specialist in Secured User Identification Systems. She evaluates technologies such as retinal eye scanners, fingerprint readers and DNA readers to be used by military, police and security officers for login access into secure computer networks throughout the country and the world. 12 Hank House is shown here with his networked security and video monitoring system. It includes a PC controlled base unit and up to 4 remote satellite units. Each satellite unit contains a motion detector and a rotating camera. Hank lives near James Bay and has been working on setting up an Internet network and the local radio station for his community. 13 Alexander Docherty ~ Internet Video Email Kiosk Alexander Docherty ~ Internet Video Email Kiosk Put in your money and record a two minute video with sound message, then send it by email to anywhere in the world. This project includes a touch screen monitor, coin slot, and custom Windows computer and program. The Kiosk can be used by any tourist who can speak French, English or Spanish. This could be setup to operate in tourist areas of the city like airports or Parliament Hill. Alex is currently studying Communications at Concordia University. 14 Maria Sabbagh ~ Computer Controlled 360 Degree Rotating Text Display A disk that rotates at exactly 7200 rpm with a microprocessor, 7 LEDs, and wireless communications link to a PC running a custom Windows application. Up to 32 5x7 dot matrix characters can be displayed in a 360 degree view range. Imagine mounting this unit in the middle of a room and being able to view scrolling text messages from anywhere within the room. 15 Daniel Paulin ~ Windows Based Electric Guitar Effects and Stomp Box An electric guitar "Stomp box" to control a custom Windows effects processor program, allowing the user to modify or effect" an electric guitar's signal by choosing presets specified by the user on a PC. These presets could then be cycled and modified using foot switches on the stomp box itself.

Abdolrahman Saadi ~ Windows Controlled Wireless Electronic Message Board This electronic scrolling message board allows the user to compose, transmit and display text, characters and animated figures from the custom Windows control program to the dot matrix LEDs of the display message board.
