Figure 5 | Dendritic cells in liver inflammation. Dendritic cells are mainly triggered via TLR ligands and generally show immunoregulatory properties in the liver, secreting IL-10 and suppressing T cells via PD-L1, but also can induce stress responses via HMGB1 and TNF secretion for example, in NAFLD. In viral hepatitis and also metabolic liver disease, they can become immunogenic, activating CD4+ and CD8+ T cells and secrete pro-inflammatory cytokines.
